A Treasure From The Orient. My best friends and I have been frequenting this wonderful restaurant for the better part of 25 years. My favorite is the asparamaki (asparagus wrapped in thinly slicked bacon) and gobo root dipped in the delightful nanban sauce. Also wonderful are the tebasaki (chicken wings) and nanbanyaki (beef cubes). Quenching my thirst and washing it down with a cold tall Sapporo makes it all divine. If only my mother had prepared and cooked vegetables like this I would have eaten all of them.

Asian Warmth meets good cuisine. Make reservations for this place is always packed. Inconspicously located at the corner of santa monica and the 405 fwy, this is a gem worth every cent of its very affordable bill. The atmosphere is great, filled with grill smoke, touchy-feely hosts and tipsy patrons - a good time is had by all. Try and sit at the bar if you can. Recommend the Pork Sausage (best Bratwurst in town), Asparagus with Pork, Stuffed Shitake, ...check out the specials menu and go for it!

You Can do the Nanban Kan!. Excellent! Don't you dare order sushi here though! There are so many other places for that. At Nanban, you should delight in the various grilled items that you order a la carte, like japanese tapas. I could eat here once a week. :)

Memories of Tokyo. We were looking for a place like the Nambantei restaurants we frequented in Hong Kong and Tokyo. This is about as good as we've found in the L.A. kushiyaki/yakitori genre so far.
