amazing view, amazing location, incredibly mediocre food, great service, awesome staff, delicious meal, very good prix fixe menu
Fun, Tropical Drinks. If you’re in need of a tropical vacation, but can’t afford the getaway, just jump in your car and head to Malibu Pier Club. Sipping tropical cocktails at this beachside bar will satisfy that craving without maxing out your credit card. I am yet to have the food here (although it looks quite good), but I can vouch for their cocktails which are all delicious. I like hanging out here and having a few drinks right before sunset because, obviously, it’s the prettiest time to be here. It’s also great for killing sometime before dinner.
Beautiful View, Bland Food. I was very disappointed. Although the view was lovely and the service was friendly though not attentive, the food was bland and embarrassingly small-portioned. I was in a group of four for Valentine's Day and the prix fixe menu looked very good. However the food was incredibly mediocre and the bill, with two drinks per person, was $312, almost $400 after tip. Two hours later we hit Del Taco because we were so hungry. I won't be going there again.
Great. Great ocean view overlooking Malibu, while you are enjoying a delicious meal. This is one of those places, where you want to keep coming back. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, always a winner! Food is great! Staff is awesome. Overall, you'll have a great experience.
The most innovative sauces that will add spice to your life!! mmmmmmm!!!.
Gourmet food in malibu!!! Finally!!! And it's surfside. Specialities that will rock your world and desserts .....words cannot describe!!!
p.s... the chef is HOOOOOT
Loved it. Went for appetizers at sunset and enjoyed ourselves so much we went back the next day for breakfast. The drinks on the patio were deliciously dangerous and the tuna tacos were amazing. Breakfast was fantastically decadent and the view of the morning surf was a great way to start the day. Great service, too, thanks!
Citysearch Editorial Review. If you crave surf, sea and gimlets at sunset, then this idyllic spot perched on the reopened Malibu pier has it. An obvious choice for locals and Malibu daytrippers, the scene is laidback and the ocean views are fabulous. The Malibu Pier was built privately in 1905, made public in 1934, and during World War II served as a Coast Guard lookout station. The restaurant flaunts a nostalgic yacht club kitsch with a glossy wood interior, stuffed marlins, sea green booths, vintage Malibu photos and porthole windows; the saltily delicious umbrella-dotted patio stands alone. As for the food, think surf and turf with the likes of clam chowder, seafood pot pie, Berkshire pork osso bucco, agave mint-glazed rack of lamb and chimmichurri ribeye.
Location makes up for everything else. The menu is pretty horrific. I went with about 15 people and nearly everyone ordered the burger because the other items were all a little scary. The service was actually a point of amusement. Nice and well intended enough, but completely clueless. I don't know if I've heard a waitress say "I just don't know if I can do that " so many times in my life. That being said, the view and location is amazing. Waves crashing, gorgeous sunsets, dolphins passing by - one really can't ask for more. So, I recommend checking it out, but perhaps eat somewhere else first.
Going downhill fast.
I've eaten at the Pier Club about 5 times since it has opened and each time I go the food as well as the service gets progressively worse. If I had written this review after my first visit it would have gotten 5 stars but with many new restaurants they start off strong and then get complacent. The first time I had the mini ahi tacos I fell in love with them. Expensive yet health, delicious and fun. Last week I almost got sick. Not fresh, fishy tasting, and sloppilly prepared. Upon opening the wait staff was genuine, friendly and attentive. During my last visit I had to interrupt a personal conversation in order to be seated. I was served Ice tea with no ice and after waiting 10 minutes after asking for a cup of ice I had to get up and go to the bar to get it. MInd you it was not cowded at all. I had high hopes for this location which has an excellent view but I think I'm done there. Don't even get me started on the Beachcomber cafe which is across the pier but I'll give that place another try before writing a review.
Pros: location, views, decent burger
Cons: parking, price, consistency,
The Pacific Ocean sets the scene at this casual bar and eatery with a laidback vibe and dramatic view..
In Short
The small bare-bones interior consists only of a long bar, but what's inside is beside the point. Visitors here have one location in mind: Outside on the pier. Even though there's no real decor to speak of, there is a live piano player, blankets on the backs of chairs in case you get cold and blue Pacific Ocean as far as the eye can see. Families and couples on dates enjoy the upscale pub grub including starters like ahi tacos and a two-person Caesar salad "fondue" with the dressing served in a bread bowl and endive and romaine lettuce on the side for dipping. Sandwiches provide the bulk of entrees, with such offerings as brick-pressed pork served with sweet potato fries. Desserts are mostly light and creamy, such as a chocolate and mascarpone mousse. Many people skip the meal altogether and simply enjoy a cocktail and the view.
Hits: This waterfront venue on the historic Malibu Pier is a great way to impress a date without necessarily spending a ton of money. Here, you don't simply have a view of the ocean, you're on it.
Misses: The menu is short and fairly one-note. There aren't many options for the healthy eater.
