In Short – This hole-in-the-wall isn't much bigger than a Transylvanian coffin, but the Hollywood locals who stop by for Hungarian pastries and coffee don't seem to mind the sun beaming in the storefront windows. Zoltan's specialties include the decadent 7-layer chocolate Dobos torte and famous, slightly irresistible "Kurtosklacs" chimney cake, a sort of Hungarian donut topped with honey, almond, coconut or sugar. Those who still want more can also find authentic Hungarian-style poppy seed and walnut rolled strudels.

Dracula's burger is a tasty good deal.

by pjp

Dracula's burger was delicious. For $5, it sure as hell beats in-n-out. The fries were great. the pickle was fresh. The burger was good!

My girlfriend got a crepe. The presentation of that was pretty nice, and she enjoyed it. We also ordered a meatball soup. It was tasty enough that we ordered it again after the rest of our food.

I also ordered a desert, a coconut cake. It was ok, nothing special.

The service was kind of flaky, but they were very nice. They just seemed a little confused, like they were new at this. If they came to the table during our meal to check up on us, and if the cake was a little better, the meal would have been awesome.

I'd still recommend this place to a friend. 2 soups, a burger, a crepe, and 2 drinks +tip was less than $30.

  • Pros: low price. good food. unique items. nice people.

Romanian delights gourmet customers

by robertski

Zoltan hails from Transylvania and has been cooking romanian specialties since he was a young man in Romania.

He has been an accountant here in the united states for around 20 years and now owns the restaurant of his dream.

Transylvania means dracula and dracula means one should visit transylvania.

It is with that theme derived from a hollywood players rendition of the life of vlad tepes at bran castle that he decorates this delightful space which is now enlarged, redecorated, and improved.

Stop in for a bite to eat, you will be glad you did.

  • Pros: Food is now served in addition to pastries
  • Cons: parking can be a problem at some times of day

Best Hungarian Pastries and Food

by Robertski

I like food and unusual places to eat. My good friend Ferrenc Horvath who hails from Budapest and has lived in Silverlake for many years told me about zoltans new bakery last year.

I visited the premises on several occasions and enjoyed the delights in the pastry case along with coffee and sodas.

I noticed many hungarians and other europeans frequenting the place and overheard their comments. Authentic, just like home, reminds me of mom's cooking, etc.

In short, as a person who loves adventure and good food this is a place very much to my liking.

Try it and you will see.
