Great Tapas! Amazing Food, Waiters and Ambiance! – This is an amazing little Spanish restaurant! I can not say enough good things about this place! My husband and I eat here regularly. The food is amazing!! They just know how to pair the ingredients together and make it so delectable! grilled eggplant with Feta & Pecan is amazing, the Chorizo with mahon cheese, membrillo on toast, Yummy!!!! The abondigas with this savory sauce, OMG!
Not only is the food amazing, the waiters are so friendly and helpful. The 1st time we went they gave us free desert, then the 2nd time we went we had the same waiter, who remembered us and he gave us a free tapas and this last time we went, our waiter suggested a new dish for us and told us if we didn't like it we wouldn't get charged for it! I can't say enough about how much I love this place!! Oh, also know that they do not have a liquor license BUT you can bring your own beer or wine, no corkage fee. Lastly, totally affordable!
Great place to take a date. It is small and candlelit room. I would not suggest for big groups though, nothing over 4 people.
Everything on the Menu is Fantastic! – My title says it all.... I don't even order here.. I just tell them to keep bringing tapas out until I'm full!!! Great date spot too - quaint, candlelit, and romantic :)
Come early because it fills up fast – Love this place. It may be small, but it makes up for it in big taste. Great tapas, sandwiches, cheese plates, desserts and more. And the best part is you can bring your own wine - with no corkage fee. You'll be surprised how low your bill is when you share and aren't being charged for over-priced alcohol. Great spot for friends and first-time dates.
Really good service – The other night was my third visit back to Manchego and I have to say for the intimacy of this small space, the service shadows it perfectly. Being in a service industry myself, I really like to be treated well..especially when i'm spending my money today. The food is fresh, tasty, and extremely creative.
TOTALLY OFFENSIVE treatment – Shame on you for the OUTRAGEOUSLY offensive treatment!
Earlier this evening, (Wednesday at 8 p.m.) two friends and I perused Main Street in a small bites-type mood, so we decided to try Manchego. We chose it over Library Alehouse, among others, because it wasn't crowded. In fact, we walked in and saw two available tiny adjacent tables--the kind good for one and just barely okay for two.
The host, apparently the owner, saw us enter and pushed the tables together, but he then separated them. He then came to greet us. I asked him if we could actually sit at the two tables he'd put together then separated. He explained, "No, you need to wait five minutes or so for that round table (which was occupied by two). I can sit four people at the two smaller tables and you are only three." He went off to the kitchen.
We stood there, kinda miffed and confused at his logic. We're supposed to wait when there's a totally reasonable option available? He is insisting on putting three of us where two are sitting? Hasn't he already set a precedent in the "not 100% full table" department with two sitting at our upcoming table for three? There was no line...Wednesday night...Quiet part of the street, so why is he clearing the way for...absolutely nobody in sight? We stood there in this tiny place waiting.
In fact, the couple at said round table at some point apparently was asked to move it along, because they waved to us quizzically. Embarrassed (I definitely wouldn't appreciate feeling like someone was waiting for my table), I gave them a sheepish "no worries" wave.
My friends and I were discussing the 'strangeness' of the situation, and one of my friends (seriously one of the NICEST people I know in LA) who hadn't caught my brief interaction with the owner asked him if we could please sit at the available space.
He launched into this "let me explain how this works" thing again...She seriously is so lovely in how she expresses things, and she told him she didn't really understand what the problem was. It was starting to click for her, though, that this guy was concerned solely about head count--really just bizarre for a quiet Wednesday. She was just beginning to tell him that maybe we didn't want to wait when there was available space when the guy just snapped into machisimo a--hole mode: "You can leave now."
What? "Yes," he repeated, "you can go. Go now." What, are you serious? Our questions are in our head, but we do express both our confusion, our disbelief, and then that we have no interest in patronizing a place that would treat people like this. It's a small place, and people were noticing, too. They had those, "Jeez, sorry" faces. The waitress looked confused, then mortified. We were stunned, but we left.
We really don't understand why we were treated in this frankly abusive way. It really left us feeling bad, quite honestly. We were thrown out! I suppose we, as three women, offended his sense of masculinity by questioning his seating decisions-?! I don't honestly know...
I am big on service, so I will never set foot in this place again, and I would strongly recommend you follow suit. Such a disrespecting prick really doesn't deserve good money in this economy.
We had a lot of fun down the street at Finn McCool's--and the food was quite tasty to boot!
Cozy restaurant – My friend and I checked out Manchego for dinner one night after driving down Main. We were excited about the Spanish tapas menu. The restaurant is pretty small which gave it a very cozy atmosphere. The food was good except that some of it was cold when it arrived which was not appetizing.
Best new spot on Main Street! – Manchego has become my go-to spot ever since my first visit. It is an intimate dining experience like no other on Main Street. The owner, Ash, is extremely personable and goes out of his way to provide an excellent dining experience. Their amazing food is authentic, creative and affordable -- be sure to check out the lunch specials! The atmosphere and environment are unique in a cozy, welcoming way. I highly recommend this place!
Best Tapas in Santa Monica – Amazing place! Great Tapas--the Jamon Serrano was excellent--great atmosphere. My friends and I went out for some good food on Saturday and came across this place on main street--we'll definitely be going back! The staff was very attentive and friendly, constantly checking on us making sure we were taken care of. If your looking for good food with a great vibe, check it out.
Small & Cozy! Great Food! – The place is super cozy! Friendly and casual! and best of all things the food is tasty and fresh. Absolutely fabulous! And this is coming from a very picky individual.
