In Short – City National Bank no more, this revitalized space is a dramatic addition to the destination dining craze sweeping Downtown L.A. Here, famed Italian chef Celestino Drago adds another notch to his restaurant belt, right behind his eponymous Santa Monica gem. The sweeping expanse of the eatery's 9,500 square feet gives way to modern decor, from floor-to-ceiling windows to a 16-foot glass wine booth and elegant cream booths beneath black Murano chandeliers. As if that wasn't enough room, diners can also spill out onto a shimmering patio with a honey-colored canopy and circular…

The good parts are the decor very cool and room does have a good feel to it. The bartender was also very helpful in picking a few specialty drinks for us, most include some fresh ingredients in them.He was the highlight of the night. For dinner we had the muscles and they had this fishy smell like they were from the LA river. My wife had le paste di grano duro and I had the le pappardelle al fagiano my wife didn't like her dish so we had to switch. I also didn't like her dish my jaw was getting tired of chewing the hard pasta. The pappardelle was great we both enjoyed it. The wait staff was nothing to brag about either the woman was slow with drinks and getting orders. All in all not worth the trip downtown we were disappointed in our dinning experience.

  • Pros: Bartenders fresh drinks
  • Cons: Pasta was rubber, muscles tasted like they were from la riv

Great ambience, average food

Couldn't find anything spicy on the menu... The cozze 'npepate missed the "pepata" (peppered/spicy) part. The lobster pasta carbonara style just tasted rich. Yep, the only flavor I could taste was the cream. For dessert, the waitress pushed for the finger size fritters: "The crowd favorites!". Well, I do not belong to that crowd then. They were very very dry. I loved the space, and the service...but the food was just average. Good, but average.

  • Pros: Good looking crowd
  • Cons: food below espectations

NOT WORTH A TRIP DOWNTOWN

by dodinbouffant at Citysearch

Went the day after Virbila of the L.A. Times gave the place a 2 1/2 star rating. Big mistake. Arrived early, seated 30 minutes later without apology even though tables were open. First courses of foie gras creme brulee and langoustine carpaccio were excellent (but neither is really "cooking."). Wide noodle pasta with Italian sausage was okay. Main course of pork belly was dry and not tender and the skin was tough and chewy. The dessert doughnuts begged for some kind of sauce to offset their dryness. Poured my own wine and water throughout the evening.

I know Celestino Drago can cook. I've had a few dishes at his various restaurants that were outstanding. I keep trying the new ones, hoping that he will finally have a place that is all good all the time, but I keep being disappointed.

  • Pros: Not too loud, nice booths, attractive space
  • Cons: Tough parking/valet, poor service, mediocre food
