not amazing steak, favorite vegetable risotto, nice everybody, huge portion, delicious fair prices, famous dish, great outdoor
This restaurant at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel always serves a wonderful chocolate pot au crème with market berries and sable cookies.
Farm fresh ingredients drive Chef Ray Garcia's menu with savory bits of bacon tossed in every other bite!
Poolside romantic dinner anyone?.
To preface and be completely fair, if you can find a place with mussels better than Tasca, I'll blow your dad.
I have never been the greatest fan of mussels but ever since having the perfect mussels at Tasca I say this is a must order at any restaurant. Unfortunately, the mussels at FIG (though the portion was huge) was a miss. The mussels were small, slightly overcooked, and dry. The broth was not as tasty and the bread was meh.
With that ONLY negative aside, FIG is a great choice for after work drinks, romantic dinner, GNO, and small get togethers. The customer service here is phenomenal. From us wanting to change our reservations from 8 to 2 tables of 4 to avoid set menus, to letting us stay WAY after closing, FIG is gracious and quick on their feet. We literally went from one table to putting FOUR tables together AND ordered off the regular menu. (Thank you.)
I thought the bread in the little packet pre dinner was a nice touch. Love the arugula butter. Though it's better when it's frozen.
Besides the mussels, the other appetizers we ordered was a great choice. In fact, everything on the menu is something I'd order. Great selections. The chef focuses on fresh ingredients that are seasonal and incorporates that into the menu (like JiRaffe but WAY better). We shared the braised tongue with 'tomatillo and breakfast radish'. The tongue was so moist with a spicy kick. If you love lengua tacos or just tongue in general, get this ASAP.
For my main, I got the fourteen ounce Entrecote (which the waiter explained to me was a Ribeye) with Blue Cheese Butter. If you know me, then you'd know there's not a steak I can't finish. FIG's portions are humungous. As delicious and perfectly cooked as my steak was, I barely finished half and less than half my fries. The fries are delicious.
Tried my friend's duck and it was perfectly cooked as well.
Staff is really super nice and I can't stress enough how efficient and accommodating they are. Huge portions, fair prices, delicious food. FIG is my new fav in Santa Monica.
Was very excited to try it but was almost embarrassed that I brought my friends here. The menu is ambitious but without solid execution behind it. My lobster thermidor was dry, nearly flavorless and had none of the classic cheesy sauce that dish is famous for. My wife's short rib meatloaf was overly rich and bland. A side of new potatoes was nothing more than some salted, boiled potatoes. A broccolini side was overwhelmed by lemon juice. A so-called "pasta-less lasagna" was nothing more than vegetables covered in melted cheese. What makes this a lasagna is beyond me. And why would you want a lasagna without pasta anyway? It's like ordering a pasta-less ravioli.
Will not return.
Market-fresh fare inside SM's Fairmont Miramar hotel.. Named after the famously enormous 123-year-old Morten Bay Fig tree at the hotel's entrance, this welcoming eatery inside the Fairmont Miramar Hotel not only has figgy tendencies, but it also strongly emphasizes sustainability and local ingredients. Led by chef Ray Garcia, the menu offers ingredient-inspired twists on traditional bistro fare. Think cashew butter with blue cheese and jelly sandwiches; curly endive with soft-poached duck egg and crispy pig's ear; and sablefish with tomato fondue and saba. It all might sound a little fancy, but it's actually quite accessible. As for the space itself, it's got a comfy vibe with lofty white ceilings, a wall full of sunburst mirrors, striped banquettes, huge windows that look onto the pool and a pewter bar and communal table for those dining (and drinking) solo.
Absolutely amazing. I went to this restaurant based on a few reviews and a photo of the outdoor seating area. The food, service and atmosphere were all phenomenal. Outdoor is romantic and indoor is great for dinner with friends. Probably one of the 10 best meals I've ever had.
Farmer's Market Specialist. I have been hearing about the FIG at the f.miramar hotel in Sants Monica and finally tried it. Had a warm quinoa salad which included squash and chard. So good, we ordered a second. You can taste the freshness of the ingridients. Next we ordered scallops. OMG. A definite point of view with multiple complimentary flavors. Delicious. I was impressed with the variety of dishes at ther tables that looked great. i became quite envious of the cheeses, so I have to go back for that next.
Best restaurant in Santa Monica!. Chef Garcia is absolutely amazing! I have tried most of all the dishes here and there is not one that was "average". The vegetable risotto is my favorite, serioulsy the best risotto ever! The steaks, fish, scallops-all amazing! The torte is pretty much the greatest thing ever and at $9, why not? The atmosphere is inviting and everybody is so helpful and nice. I keep coming back here and am never dissapointed! The most fabulous desert ever- the Banana Split (not your traditional Banana Split), and the Fig bars are just amazing!
Simply great food in Santa Monica. This is a serious but fun culinary player, been only once now but from what I had some of the best food in town.....friend told me to visit and was skeptical?BUT? reasonable price and comfy...the kind of place you can go twice a week, feel at home and not get bored with the menu, lots of options and range...do the tarte flambe, mussels, john dory, venison...well anything really....great charcuterie and cheese format ....AND one of best priced wine list in LA? a bit of a valet hike but oh well?..going back this week?
Scrumptious beach bistro!!!. Where had this chef been all this time??Amazing what he does with food! His stuffed fig with cheese is out of this world. Most importatnly its about eating hearty food that anyone would love. From the huge "bone" in steaks and pomme frites to the delicate grilled romaine . IF youre a desert freak, his own signature FIG desert has the right amount of sweetness without overpowering your palate. Chef Garcia is definetly in tune with food and the different palates the world has to offer!
Best new Restaurant in Santa Monica-Hands down.
Food is amaaazing. I had the quinoa salad, baby carrots, sweetbreads (shared) steak & pomme frites, the homemade cashew nut and fig jelly sandwich and it was to die for. This Chef Garcia gets it! The flavors are dead on, the veggies are cooked perfectly and the desserts had me wondering where this guy came from. He is the real thing. There are a few chefs in town that I can actually say the same thing- (Love me some J. Travi too) .
My favorite place to sit is at the bar. The cheeses (fave cheese: the swiss pungent one) crazy delicious. My head was spinning with the different menus, (I get like that when I'm starving) luckily I had a maitre'd help with the wine and cheese and the waiter (Will) organized my feast. I have another reservation coming up...
