With incredibly spacious indoor and outdoor dining areas on 2 levels overlooking the magnificent promenade of The Americana at Brand, Katsuya Glendale is the largest location of SBE's Katsuya collection to date.
Designed by Philippe Starck to resemble a Japanese pagoda, the main floor includes an expansive outdoor patio and facing cocktail and sushi bars. The 2nd floor features a dramatic dining room, large sushi bar, cocktail bar, outdoor terrace overlooking The Americana and an enclosed private dining room that seats 8. For this newest location of Katsuya, Chef Uechi has created a unique menu, while including his signature classics and the addition of select child-friendly menu items. The restaurant's Dragon Lounge features signature cocktails and a DJ Friday and Saturday nights until 2am.

In Short
Glendale's version of the Grove hosts Philippe Starck's third collaboration with chef Uechi Katsuya and the SBE Group. Spectacularly large, the restaurant packs in spendy locals who come to see and be seen. A giant industrial steel staircase spirals up to a sweeping dining room splashed with giant macro photos of geisha faces, imparting a pop-shock twist to the futuristic space. Prime spots include the balcony seats that overlook the kitschy Bellagio-like fountain on the mall's center green. Signature dishes include yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno, kiwi scallop with yuzu vinaigrette, crispy rice with spicy tuna, lobster dynamite and a wide selection of top-grade sushi, sashimi and rolls.

First time at Katsuya, it was on Sunday @ around 4:30pm, so it wasn't that busy yet. We were sited outside on ground level. Itt was a nice sitting outside, we were able to see the fountain, hear the jazz band that was there that day and we enjoyed the beautiful surrounding of the Americana had to offer. The staff was friendly. The food was good, but I wouldn't say is any better than any other Japanese Restaurant. I thought this place was way too Expensive for what they give you. After ordering an entree and sushi, me and my husband still felt hungry when we left but we weren't about to order more food which will probably cost us $50 more on the bill. Bottom line is, if you don't mind paying 3xs more than most Japanese Restaurant and maybe leaving still hungry, then this is a great place to eat and enjoy the surrounding. No, we would we would not go there again. Its not worth it.

I got overcharged and do not appreciate that. The receipt I signed was less than what my credit card was charged for. Restaurant is expensive and food is definetely better than the alternative fast food but at this price I expected way more. Service above average, food, above average, price and cheating definetely impacted my trust and overall experience.

What to Drink:
Specialty cocktails incorporate fresh fruits, herbs and vegetables, like the watermelon cucumber mojito and burning mandarin with serrano chili. There's also a small wine, beer and sake list.
Know Before You Go:
Unlike other Katsuya venues, this spot is much more kid-friendly--it's in a mall, after all--and there are three kids' meals, featuring tempura, teriyaki or California rolls. There's also a playground not far from the patio.
Save Money:
The best deals can be found at lunch, when a sushi or sashimi special served with miso soup, salad and rice are priced under $20.
Where to Sit:
The expansive patio is inviting year round--it has heat lamps as well as a heated stone floor. For the best ground floor fountain view, request table No. 116.
