great service, best galbi, great anna, great neighborhood restaurant, best quality protein, great tony, really enjoyed place
My favorite Korean BBQ. Soowon Galbi is the real thing. The waitstaff doesn't speak English, the menu is spottily translated, and the great majority of the clientele are Korean. A remodel a few years back spruced up the place a bit, but it's still got that brightly-lit linoleum ambiance (or lack thereof). The galbi is obviously the house specialty, although I actually prefer the bulgogi - both are perfectly marinated for you to cook at the table. The panchan are fresh, varied, and plentiful. I ask for some extra garlic to throw on the grill with the meat, wrap everything up in lettuce, and ohmygosh I'm drooling just thinking about it.
Great Galbi. This place should have much higher ratings than it has. We were a party of 6 and had the multiple orders of the galbi and bulgogi. Galbi is the best here. Orders are pretty large so you can share (we ordered 5 meat items for the 6 of us). The location, especially the so-called valet, is rather shady looking, but the food is worth it.
Great neighborhood restaurant. I've eaten at many korean bbq restaurants, some good some bad. I really enjoyed this place because of their great side dishes, service, and a gracious hospitality. Even though I can't read or speak a word of Korean, the staff made my experience wonderful.
Editorial Review. Koreatown restaurant specializes in namesake beef shortrib dish. Also offers tabletop grill for cooking other meats, private party seatings.
Diamond in the rough. My husband was always trying to get me to eat Korean food b/c I never thought of it as an option...wow was I pleasantly surprised when we went to LA Soowon Galbi. It's sooo much fun. Tony and Anna, the new owners are great. I highly recommend it, especially if you are trying to watch your carb intake....talk about the best quality protein ever!! They have this drink called 'soju'...pretty powerful stuff!!
Good charcoal grilled Kalbi. This is the only Korean BBQ place I go to for charcoal grilled Kalbi. Their marinade is perfect and the meat's always tender. You must get 2 or more orders of the Kalbi to be able to grill it at the table. Anything less, they cook it for you in the kitchen, and that takes all the fun out of eating Kalbi. And of course, they give you all kinds of side dishes as most korean restaurants do. Don't plan on going anywhere else after Kalbi outing because you'll smell like smoke/food for a long time after.
