Don't support art thievery.. ART THIEVES. X-Large used the beloved "Chump" character from Residue Comics in their 2010 fall line on their "CHUMP TEE." X-Large didn't bother to get permission from the artist to do so, nor did the artist receive any acknowledgement or compensation for use of his creative property. This character has been around for over 20 years and is well known among artists and independent comics collectors all around the world, as is the creator a great friend to our community of artists and art lovers. It is my hope X-Large will do the honorable thing and support the artists whose hard work they feel so compelled to use on their products instead of resorting to stealing from them.
Founded by Beastie Boy Mike Diamond, this extreme boutique offers pricey gear for skaters and hip-hoppers.. Hip-hop meets skate couture at this men's and women's West Coast shop: Look for old-school sneakers, uniform pants, faux-preppy button down shirts, blaxploitation T-shirts, backpacks, stickers and watches. The back wall features copies of the Beasties' hard-to-find Grand Royal fanzine, featuring detailed reporting on campy and neglected topics. No one will snap if you chill and read for a bit. Upstairs you'll find the in-house women's line, X-Elle, and muted, clunky Royal Elastics sneakers. Also keep an eye out for X-Girl, a tailored, defiantly simple line for club kids, started by Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon. Fans include Donovan Leitch, Ione Skye, Zoe Cassevetes, Sofia Coppola and Janeane Garofalo. If you bought this stuff at the surplus or thrift shop it would be a lot cheaper, but then it wouldn't have the cache of indie rock royalty, would it?
