great spicy food, love thai place, good service, authentic thai food, worst thai food, great old palms thai, favorite thai restaurant
Best of..... One of the best Thai food in Town. A citysearch perennial "Best-of" winner. What can do they do wrong? I loved this place.
Not impressed. Use low quality cheap rice. Thai food is one of my favorite, and I have had been to many thai restaurant. I have to admit I'm a bit picky when it comes to food. I ordered the Coconut soup with chicken, and the Paneng curry with beef. Those are my favorite thai dish and I always order those everytime i try a new thai restaurant. My bf ordered a pineapple fried rice. The biggest problem is the rice... both the steam rice and the pineapple fried rice, they used some very cheap quality rice that has very odd texture... almost powdery, with no substance. It might has to do with the recent rapid increase in rice price. The cashew and the chicken in the pinapple fried rice also had a very odd texture to it. Taste was ok. But everything just felt off in your mouth. And for the Penang curry. It was too sweet. I ordered medium spicy, but it wasn't really spicy, just sweet. And doesn't have the proper penang curry taste. The coconut soup was the only one that wasn't disappointing. A little bit on the sour side, but still acceptable. Thai ice tea was good though. Their price was cheap at least.
Don't be fooled by those SCAM reviews!! (probably written by the competitor).
I got to say that honestly i am not related to this restaurant at all, I'm only just a big fan of this awesome restaurant and the incredible Thai Elvis. I am a full blooded Chinese girl and what i love the most is Thai Food. I've been going to Palm's ever since they were in the old place. I kinda like the old place better which now turned in to "Patio Thai".
I have never dare to write any reviews before because English is my second language. But today i will try my best to emphasize what i have on my mind towards this citysearch reviews to Palm's Thai. Please excuse my poor English.
To me, i do feel that there are lots of good things at this lovely restaurant if you only get a chance to go there. And i do think that they deserves a good reviews about them.
I do believe that most of the negative comment about this place are from those people that have never even been to Palm's. I don't really know the intention to screw up this restaurant by writing the negative comments about them. I find that things that people wrote here are totally nonsense!!!
For example: one guy complaining about Palm's Mango with Sticky rice taste bad HELLO! PALM"S NEVER HAD MANGO WITH STICKY RICE ON THEIR MENU EVER SINCE I STARTED COME HERE!
For example: one guy complaining about the delivery order that takes 40 mins and Palm's charges $5.00 for delivery. HELLO! THAI FOOD USUALLY TAKES TIME TO PREPARE, IF YOU ONLY HAVE SOME COOKING SKILLS. I HAVE THEIR DELIVERY MENU IN MY HAND WHICH SAIDS "FREE DELIVERY!!!" THERE IS NO SUCH THINGS AS $5.- CHARGE.
This is just 2 example of the scam reviews that i can not tolerate to read no more. I think everybody loves to read a useful reviews. Don't waste time to write something that is totally UNTRUE. UNLESS YOU GOT PAID TO DO SO????
BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU READ THOSE REVIEWS
We were robbed, REALLY! Too bad we can't give a 0-star rating....
Food is ok, but not worth being held up!
Yes...my friend and I were robbed while sitting outside. There was even a security guard on duty, but he apparently was too busy to notice that a deranged crackhead had come into the patio area off of Hollywood Blvd. threatening us and demanding our money and cell phone batteries. The restaurant was packed, yet not one member of the incompetent staff thought it was odd that there was suddenly a new guest at our table counting a roll of freshly-stolen cash.
Looking back on the night, the fact that the waiter screwed up our order, then spent several minutes belligerently arguing and refusing to correct his mistake almost seems almost like a fond memory in comparison. (Although, it did seem a little tasteless when he brought it up again after we were robbed...)
Don't let the seemingly reasonable prices fool you. Dinner for two for all of the cash in our wallets and a couple of cell phone batteries hardly qualifies as a deal.
weird, but interesting.. ok, so the elvis impersonator is a bit weird (we hadn't read about it in advance) at the atmosphere is too, but the food is very good. papaya salad was flavorful - dried crab was interesting. meat and curry dishes were delicious. wild things are really wild (i have to assume these foods are not even remotely environmentally sustainable, particularly at such low prices)
Bad And Repulsive Food. I ordered 2 orders of Pad Thai Noodles with Chicken, bbq pork and Chow Mein. The order arrived within 40 minutes - I live maybe 5 minutes away from the restaurant. The order was wrong. They sent 2 chicken satay orders instead of the pad thai. We called and the man was rude and said we ordered the satay. Well after five minutes he said he'd send the pad thai - but we had to return the satay so he could RESELL IT!!!!!!!!! OMG! Isn't that against some law? They delivered the pad thai 40 minutes later - after my friends had finished their food. They demanded the satay and when I said that most restaurants would be happy to let us keep the wrong order the man said he wouldn't give us the pad thai unless we returned it. I was only testing him and I said it was wrong to resell it. He shrugged his shoulders. I ate the pad thai and I seriously think the chicken was not chicken - it tasted greasy and was not much more than cartillage (sp?). I was hungry and ate about half the order. After I finished it I had a terrible sensation in my mouth, throat and lips - and as I'm writing his 2 hours later - I still feel the sensation - kind of like battery acid when you change your car battery - I'm not lying. Anyway, I'm sitting here with the feeling that I'm going to get sick and I'm wondering if something was bad in the food. I won't call them because they were rude to me, but now I'm concered about their cleanliness. I have a friend who once got hepatitis from eating at a thai restaurant and I'm worried because seriously this was the worst food I've ever had. Even the Chinese Food and Donuts place on Cahuenga and Yucca in Hollywood was better - and you get 3 items and rice and noodles for $4.00 - but its pretty gross. DON'T ORDER FROM HERE! $7.50 for bad tasting and gross Pad Thai isn't such a deal. Plus they charged like $5.00 to deliver. I'll repost if I get sick. Stay tuned!
Bada-bang for your buck...and yes...it's delicious!. Where can you get awesome Thai food? Thai Town of course. Food is excellent, price is nice, cool jumpsuit elvis, easy access off freeway, and clean. Definitely will make a trip back here.
Godawful. Truly horrible food -- disintegrating shrimp in the TomYum, chicken that could have been any other meat under the sun, ghastly in all ways. I actually liked the service -- there was a very sweet person who took our order. But I'll never go near this place again. Try Pink Pepper on LaBrea -- that's real Thai and only a mile or two away.
The worst Thai food in Los Angeles. This food is really bad. Tasteless, bland, horrible. The service is even worse: rude, slow, and dumb. Never go here. There are so many better places.
Great Thai food and a fun time out!. I've been here several times and their Pad Thai is still my favorite in the area. Their lunch specials are so inexpensive and very filling. Also, at night, their entertaining "Thai Elvis" is wonderful. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a nice staff, nice environment (quiet in the day, fun at night), and great food for not that much money.
