What People Are Saying About Mexico City

The Scene
Counterculture minimalism meets Oaxacan folk art, with Day of the Dead figures, piñatas and vibrant expressionist murals.

The Food
Sure, the gringo standbys are all here, but savvy diners flock to Mexico City for its regional entrees like the blistering camarones enchipotlados (shrimp in tomatillo and chipotle sauce) and the tangy pollo mole verde (chicken in pumpkin seed, cilantro and green pepper sauce). Meats--especially the chicken--can be dry, but as vehicles for the flamboyantly flavored sauces that hardly matters. Desserts further enthrall. The crepas de cajeta (buttery orange and lemon zest crepes) are topped with sweet caramel and pecans, nicely balancing the tart citrus. Shrimp are always plump and juicy; the camarones de ajo (shrimp in a pungent garlic sauce) will keep vampires at bay for at least a week.

This was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. From the moment we arrived the hostess was a totally rude and condescending. She ruined our night. She was on some surreal power trip towards everyone waiting to eat. This place is definitely not trendy any more and looks like a dump. I would rather eat at Del Taco. The service is much better and the customers and employees are treated with dignity.

Authentic, mouth watering dishes that have a distinct homemade taste which is often so hard to find at Mexican restaurants in LA. Great service from nice friendly staff. It's a fun place to drink sangria, get a little rowdy, but all with good humor. I highly recommend it for any one looking for the best Mexican food in Los Feliz.

I have never had a bad time at Mexico City. It has a great diverse crowd, no attitude, great waiters like Victor, and good food. It's like going out and going home.

The Details on Mexico City

When to Go:

Order fresh tamales during autumn and spring. You can get either chicken tamales wrapped in green corn or black mole tamales wrapped in banana leaves.

Know Before You Go:

Think you can handle the heat? Poblano peppers grown in the cooler months are hotter than normal, so beware of dishes featuring them in autumn and winter.
