Editorial Review for Paru's – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
At Paru's, off-duty industry folk, 20-somethings clutching cell phones and the proprietor's family and friends all gather to partake in casual southern Indian fare. A plant-shrouded patio is graced with outdoor tables and inside booths are surrounded by vivid knickknacks. This down-home food is based largely on lentils, rice and vegetables. Lunch specials such as Mini Thali provide an array of tastes, including samplings of raita, a dill-flavored cold yogurt salad.

Passing through the buzzer iron gates and somewhat dingy outer patio makes the cozy interior feel even more intimate. The two guys that run the show in the dining room are super friendly and helpful, and they serve you pretty fantastic food. A lot, for the money. At first glance it might not look like there's a lot of variety on the meatless menu, but that's in part because each dish comes with a lot of variety itself. Make sure to try the paratha, it's great here.
Pros: feel safe trying anything on the menu-- each dish will have at least a few things you'll love
Cons: going in a largish group can be hard to find a table, though the guys work hard to accomodate

I'm not a vegetarian, but a trusted vegetarian friend of mine gave this place her word. Still, the dinky outside kept me away a couple months until one night my boyfriend and I decided to dine at Paru's. What a treat! Don't judge a restaurant by it's "cover", inside Paru's is wonderfully charming, like a grandparent's living room or a scene from a Wes Anderson film. Pleasant staff and delicious food. Masla Dosa is a must. Mixed vegetable curry, mmm and the best raita (yogurt) I've ever had. Raita with a kick! Highly recommended for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike, you'll leave satisfied and look forward to returning.
Cons: don't have many traditional (well, what I know of Indian food from L.A. and London) curries
