A local favorite for years, this Vermont Avenue staple is where scenesters huddle at the bar (swapping screenwriting secrets over aperitifs), diners squeeze into red banquettes and al fresco fans fill the sidewalk tables for some of the best people-watching in town. The Parisian fin-de-sicle vibe is recreated with French antiques, cast-iron chandeliers and a zinc bar. The menu includes bistro standards such as garlic butter escargot, imported cheese platters and a grilled steak topped with Roquefort and peppercorn sauce--with a side of frites, naturally. Croissants, baguettes and pastries are…

  1. really liked my lunch there and loved the casual warm atmosphere.
  2. Love this place, love their food--delicious, a fun place to sit outside and dine, but their prices keep going up and they hire the worst servers!
  3. Figaro is great for brunch; they serve lovely breakfast food in a fabulous atmosphere.
  4. Otherwise the ambiance is great as many have stated.
  5. The atmosphere was very gloomy with dirty floors and uncomfortable chairs.
  6. love the little cafes and hidden restaurant in European cities, so when I saw Figaro's, I was very excited to have a romantic dinner there with my boyfriend.
  7. The food is fantastic as is the atmosphere.
  8. do love the ambiance and food so much that I return--the location is quite convenient as well.
  9. Horrible food, ridiculous prices, nice decor
  10. am totally in love with this place, the service was GREAT, lovely atmosphere, will definatelly come back!

  12. the decor is cute and very 'frenchie'- highly recommend this place!
  13. personally i love the ambience and setting of this restuarant: i'm in france.
  14. Maybe not perfect or the best food in the world, but just really nice, tasty, and comfortable.
  15. Setting is great-very French, romantic.
  16. love the decor and ambiance of this place.
dessert
100.0% positive
  1. Their on site pastry chief made two beautiful cakes.
  2. Nice nice nice croissants (although a little too buttery for me), especially the pain au chocolate.
  3. My recommendation would be to come for coffee and a pastry or drinks and dessert - enjoy the space without falling victim to the scammingly high prices.
  4. Two glasses of wine, then coffee and desserts: delicious chocolate souffle and chausson aux pommes.
  5. The desserts are awesome, especially the hot chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream!
  6. The cuisine is truly delctable - buttered escargot, fresh baked bread baskets, and flourless pistachio cakes are some of my favorites.
  7. went a few days ago with my boyfriend and had the crab cakes which were really good!
  8. We sat down and Walter the bartender, who is great to talk to told us about there happy hour, which had escargot, crab cakes and other yummy stuff.
  9. For desert we again tried to order a creme brulee, which was not available.
drinks
85.0% positive
  1. They even had Lillet which is my favorite drink and not always available.
  2. We had one of the friday night specials, a stuffed lobster tail, and a great bottle of wine, wonderful.
  3. The waitresses were very helpful and knowledgeable when it came to the wine list.
  4. spent over $70 on a *decent* warm goat cheese salad, 1 glass of decent red wine, and a plate of AWFUL undercooked CRUNCHY risotto.
  5. Ours was very helpful and knowledgeable about wine,
  6. You well be taken back buy the original light fixtures, huge wall meriors, and zinc top bar.
  7. It's nice to be able to enjoy a glass of wine out on a sidewalk table--it feels like being in France.
  8. $100 for two horrible main dishes (pork loin and chicken, both of which had absolutely no taste and were seriously undercooked), two beers, and a side of broccoli (which was actually good).
  9. My recommendation would be to come for coffee and a pastry or drinks and dessert - enjoy the space without falling victim to the scammingly high prices.
  10. dollar beers on the happy hour, awesome fries and mini burger, Cab or merlot, my friends and I got tipsy enjoying there outside seating and had a great pre concert blast at the fig.
  11. You can sit outside, read a book and enjoy a nice lunch; or go with friends and have some drinks and just hang out for the afternoon.
  12. celestial bottle of light yet complex and a little spicy red wine recommended by the friendly waiter (his name is Gils).
  13. And he was surprised as he said most French places like this one in L.A. have the worst French wine.
  14. It has a really cool bar on the inside.
  15. The bar is beautiful, and made of zinc.
  16. But this place is so beautiful a part from the bar they have this candle lit dining room Ahhh?
  17. Two glasses of wine, then coffee and desserts: delicious chocolate souffle and chausson aux pommes.
  18. She insinuated that the wine was not very good and not worth ordering because it was the cheapest wine they had by the glass, so, regardless of her taking her gum out, it would be hard to tell if the wine was drinkable or not.
  19. The portions are large, the wine menu extensive.
  20. The bar is good, the pastry is excellent, the coffee can be wonderful.

  5. The cuisine is truly delctable - buttered escargot, fresh baked bread baskets, and flourless pistachio cakes are some of my favorites.
  6. Although, Figaro serves up some great French food, everytime I go there I get the mussels and fries, which hands down are the best in town.
  7. Best chicken dish I've ever had.
  8. The food was WAY OVERPRICED and BAD.
  9. The service was wonderful, the food sublime.
  10. Even when the food is really good, the service is terrible and then the prices are just too high for what the place is.
  11. This is place is for the desperately hungry who don't care how much bad food costs.
  12. For desert we again tried to order a creme brulee, which was not available.
  13. Great food, POOR SERVICE!
  14. If you are looking for some very good and tasty French food you should definatelly try this place out
  15. I'm a big foodie and love a great flavorful steak.

  18. It's a little funky inside, but the food (the bread is awesome) is really great.
  19. The food runner was very good and courteous though.
  20. We also split the cheese platter, and a nice mango salad.
  21. everything was really fresh tasting, and more importantly, authentic tasting.
  22. dollar beers on the happy hour, awesome fries and mini burger, Cab or merlot, my friends and I got tipsy enjoying there outside seating and had a great pre concert blast at the fig.
  23. Everything else (mashed potatoes, bread) was very good as well.

  25. We sat down and Walter the bartender, who is great to talk to told us about there happy hour, which had escargot, crab cakes and other yummy stuff.
  26. asked one waitress a question and she said, "I don't speak English I'm sorry" The atmoshere is nice, very authentic Parisian, though I was treated better in Paris.
  27. Very good organic food
  28. My Friend ordered the salmon which was delicious but it was smothered in oil/pesto sauce even on the vegetables so that was little bit of a bummer.
  29. The food is good but high priced.
  30. If you ever want to treat someone to some delicious French food, take them here.
  31. My husband and I have had better food at just as nice or nicer resturants for not as pricey a menu.
  32. My friend had the organic salad which was fantastic and then lamb which he didn't enjoy as much.
  33. My boyfriend took me here for what we hoped would be a nice meal, but instead it turned out to be a big drain on his wallet and we both would have been happier eating at home!
  34. Tasty but not enough meat.
  35. Enjoy a mimosa or two, the French toast is fabulous and so are the omelets.
  36. spent over $70 on a *decent* warm goat cheese salad, 1 glass of decent red wine, and a plate of AWFUL undercooked CRUNCHY risotto.
  37. Good job and please never forget that the quality of your food is wonderful, so please just keep going.
  38. good food, a little pricey for the area
  39. It's mostly for people who think they are cool pretending to make movie deals while pretending to eat good food.
  40. Do yourself a favour -- go to Cafe Stella in Silverlake for the most amazing french food in the area.
  41. lot of the expensive restaurants in LA don't have the great food to back the prices, but Figaro does.
  42. They had a really delicious special when I went: salmon-wrapped goat cheese.
  43. There really isn't better or more authentic traditional French bistro that I've found in LA.
  44. If you want a good meal.
  45. really felt like I was in Paris but without the cool vibe, authentic food and fashionable Parisians.
  46. Great food.
  47. do love the ambiance and food so much that I return--the location is quite convenient as well.
  48. The food was tasteless and overpriced; I had a $30 salmon dish that tasted like they cooked it from the night before and reheated for my pleasure and the french fries, were cold and soggy.
  49. Frites are yummy too!
  50. Figaro is great for brunch; they serve lovely breakfast food in a fabulous atmosphere.
  51. love this place, and am really amazed that people have had bad food there (though if they got the sourpuss waiter, who hopefully is gone foreve, I'd understand some unhappiness).
  52. Love this place, love their food--delicious, a fun place to sit outside and dine, but their prices keep going up and they hire the worst servers!
  53. Delicious food ruined by poor service
  54. For my main course, I had a chicken dish which was very dry.
  55. Furthermore, we ordered the steak tartare, which was so horrible we couldn't eat any of it, and the french fries, which were now priced at three times the price, yet came served as a tiny side.
  56. The lamb was also gross.
  57. So why the most appalling bread and the under seasoned bland food?
  58. Two glasses of wine, then coffee and desserts: delicious chocolate souffle and chausson aux pommes.
  59. Three years ago, Figaro was by far my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles -- it was filled with artists, amazing energy, helpful staff, and delicious yet affordable food, and even had special touches like black and white films running on the walls from tim
  60. the portions are also small (like in paris) but the food and server recommendations were good.
  61. The food is fantastic as is the atmosphere.
  62. give Figaro Bistro credit for being organic and for adding no salt, but the meal was very unsatisfying.

  1. like I was in Paris at all, but the obnoxious French waiter who reeked of stale cigarettes certainly made me feel as unwelcome as I did on my last visit to the City of Lights.
  2. The service was equally bad.
  3. Extremely poor service.
  4. My mom is in town from Berkeley and we've been hitting up all the cute mom-daughter friendly places we can find.
  5. We ate here and had terrible service.

  12. Zoe, the bartender was there and we had a nice "hello chat" as I stood in line for the ladies room (ok, so the line itself was not the high point of the evening).
  13. Delicious food ruined by poor service

  22. On top of that, make sure your servers don't embarrass your costumers for not ordering the most expensive things on the menu.
  23. The staff was surprisingly nice and our waitress was really friendly and attentive (no attitude that I could detect).

  25. Our waitress was truly terrible.
  26. the portions are also small (like in paris) but the food and server recommendations were good.
  27. Food was great, but the service not.
  28. The hostess, friendly at the beginning, soured when we asked to be seated at another table since the one we were offered at first was way too cramped with us essentially sharing the long table with strangers.
  29. besides being way overpriced for miniscule proportions (an attempt I suppose at being a stereotypical 'snobby' french restaurant), our waiter was HORRIBLE.

A mediocre lunch experience

by SoloAngeleno

Our waitress was inexperienced and forgetful. We had to keep asking for our food -- not something I'm used to doing when I'm paying sixty five dollars for lunch. Both my friend and I were underwhelmed by the soup du jour (tomato basil which was lumpy and lukewarm) as well as our salad entrees. I've heard Figaro was a wonderful Los Feliz restaurant. What happened?

Really Enjoy The Food!!

by gilathorp

I enjoy their food here. I don't know if it's also the same chef cooking as the one in Top Chef this season, but at least I like the super fast way they get the food out to you, without feeling hurried. More accurately, I think I should say that the food comes out in successions, at the perfect timing.

Left Bank in LA

by harps

Stumbled upon this french cafe/bistro while driving back from Griffith Observatory. It feels like walking into a real Parisian cafe, with oversized vintage mirrors, chandeliers, rattan cafe chairs, and an assortment of baked goods. There is a great happy hour with crab cakes and fries and house wine (the latter being a bit awful). The dinner menu has a good mix of vegetarian, meat and poisson- I had the peppercorn ahi, which was divine. Definitely go for the authentic atmosphere, outdoor seating and friendly service.

  • Pros: atmosphere, service, outdoor seating
  • Cons: Pricey

Overpriced and underwhelming

by Jessica Lopez

I've been here several times over the last few years, and the last 2 times I've been were less than moving.

For one, the dish we had always been told was vegan- the layered mashed potato dish, we came to find out was not after eating it for the past few years. The only vegan dish they have on the menu is a bland tofu and couscous dish, which is only ok after adding the spicy sauce to it, and no where near worth the $18 they want for it.

Overpriced and underwhelming is my general sentiment about this place.

I mean it's fun to come and gawk at Katherine Heigl and that dude from 24, and the decor is super cute and quaint but I'm writing this review to remind myself to not allow myself to be seduced once more by the patina of delicious specialness that this place has.

OH NON! YOU VILL NOT HAVE MY MONEE AGAIN!!
