danger will robinson!. I recently was verbally assaulted by a drunk and belligerent old dude at the bar. After moving to a table, the insults continued. At one point I was worried for my safety and considered asking the manager to walk me to my car. Imagine my shock when I found out the old dude was AN EMPLOYEE (off duty) of the bar! Nope. Won't be back.

Best Piano bar entertainment in Los Angeles.. Oh, my gosh, having been to many Piano bars in California, Chicago, Boston and New York City, I've seen some superb entertainers playing behind the piano. By far, the best piano bar entertainer, to sing a variety of music or interject humor into an evening is BRYAN MILLER. (WEDNESDAY EVENINGS AT THE OTHER SIDE) He has been performing in piano bars for over 37 years and knows how to keep the room singing, laughing and emotionally charged. His talent and experience lends a great deal to the entire piano bar evening. His ability to sing and harmonize with anyone makes the evening seem like more of a variety show and is NEVER dull. He can play any era of music - From the lovely standards of years gone by - to contemporary hits of today. Bryan is also a brilliant comedian who can make you laugh until your sides hurt. A versatile piano man who will make you coming back for more. I loved watching him.

BRYAN MILLER - WEDNESDAY EVENINGS AT "The Other Side" - 8:30PM - Mid-night

He'll make you laugh, cry, sing, clap and showcase other singers who deserve to be heard. Truly the quintessential piano bar entertainer. He is one of the many reasons why piano bars have such a deep muscial history - Don't miss him. He's a piano bar gem.

Best Way to Spend Your Friday Night... PERIOD.. James' show on Friday nights is the best display of vocal talent in the Los Angeles area. Hands down. Not only is James the best piano player around, but it is obvious that he and his singers all have a blast. You will, too! Come early if you want a seat near the piano, as the joint is jumpin' by 10:00pm. The Other Side on Friday nights is the ULTIMATE piano bar experience!

PS: James Games on Tuesday night is a hoot as well!!

Great Friday Night Entertainment. Visited "The Other Side" for the first time last September. I live in Palm Springs, so don't get to Silverlake that often. But now plan my visits to include a Friday evening to catch James Lent at the piano. Besides James enthusiastic piano playing, he has guest singers who are truly professional artists. They perform a couple numbers and then someone else takes the microphone. Taking turns and giving each a few steps up to the mike during the evening. It makes for a fabulously enjoyable evening. The place does get crowded, but lots of fun, even if you have to stand.

P.S. Get there early and enjoy dinner at The Flying Leap Cafe before the show. But make reservations.

Best Cabaret Show I've seen in LA!. I had a great time at James' show! He has a variety of guest and surprise perfomers that keep the evening moving at fast pace with never a dull moment- You should check it out sometime for a fun diversion!

Is this a Silver Lake bar or the cocktail lounge on a gay retirement cruise?. In Short
A garishly lit entryway with glossy headshots of the nightly cabaret talent leads to a disarmingly bright room drenched in fake crystal, with mirrored panels and short grey carpet. The crowd is older and can sometimes come on too strong. The Other Side essentially takes the place of L.A.'s beloved and now long-gone show queen/piano bar institutions, Joly's and Mr. Mike's. The bar staff is friendly--if often inattentive--and the drinks are potent and cheap.
