Good Luck Bar

This convincing old-time Chinese dive keeps the musty mystique going with hanging paper lanterns, carved-dragon ceiling panels and big mirrors. A beautiful, keyhole-shaped doorway leads from the main bar to the back room, where would-be opium smokers lounge on low, comfy chairs and couches. Loud, romantic music ranges from Frank Sinatra to Al Green, perfect for imbibers on the prowl. The full-color folding matchbooks are among the best in town. –

Parking:: There are meters on Sunset on the block east of the bar, and you'll find limited street parking in the residential neighborhood to the north.
The Extras:: Located just around the corner from the Vista Theater, the Good Luck attracts a crowd when screenings let out.
What to Drink:: Try the Good Luck house special, a frothy blend of amaretto, Midori, milk and fruit juice. Traditionalists can opt for a mug of Chinese herb whiskey.
Know Before You Go:: You don't need to bust out your suit to get in here, but dress casual to dressy.

Total Classic Neighborhood Bar

This is one of those Hollywood and neighborhood classics. Anytime is a great time to go, but Thursday's and Weds are some of my favorite days when crowds aren't overwhelming. Wonderful decor, tons of fun, good bartenders and fair prices.

Go Elsewhere, Anywhere!

1. The WORST drinks I've had since I moved to Los Angeles(7 years ago). $8 and watered down to the point that even the bouncer said the drinks were bad.

2. If you like women, go elsewhere, the crowd while nice was less than desirable.

3. No hat policy? What is this Massachusetts? Well if it was MA they'd allow Gay marriage so somewhere this whole state and within this state this bar has gone HORRIBLY wrong.

Do not go here.

best moody dive bar

i have re-visited this bar for the past 10 years, it is one of the best little bars i have been to.

my husband and i had our first kiss here and many drunken nights. this is a great date night dive - plus a fun social place to gather with your trendy friends (but get there early for a good seat).

the drinks are great, the bar gets busy so i suggest you order 2 drinks at a time.

you can't have a bad time here

Alright, so this is a really great bar. I've been here a handful of times... and I've recommended it to quite a few friends. The jukebox is good, (not f*cking incredible) the drinks are good, and the bartenders are slightly slow, but I think they always are at bars that get so crowded. (And it does get really crowded). However on a week night, it's ultra mellow for a more relaxed time... so your experience can be totally different. Only, the last time I went there the bartender charged me twice for my tab... but I took care of it and just think it was an honest mistake.

Definitely worth checking out.

Please pass this place up...it is scary

This is a perfect bar if you like drunk clueless girls & belligerent bartenders who yell racial slurs at people!! Don't get me wrong, the decor is cute, decent music & they have a kitschy drink menu. but let me tell you, EVERY TIME i have been in there i have encountered the drunkest & most belligerent people ever. this last time was even worse, because not only did a random girl come up to me & start calling me names and yelling racial epithets at me (i am hispanic) but the bartender went crazy on me as well! he went over to "talk" to the girl (because instead of engaging her we tried to get help) and when she denied saying anything he came over and told me and my friend that we were aggressive and gh*tto. he then proceeded to call us beaners and said he would "sl*p the gh*tto right out of us." he LITERALLY said exactly that. have you heard someone called a beaner in like 15 YEARS?! i had been there 5 minutes and wasnt even a quarter of the way into my beer. they then posted a guy right behind us to guard the populous of this bar against our potentially crazy, 5 minutes in a bar with no alcohol behavior while leaving the girls who were so drunk they were practically falling down to their business. as he stood behind me, the girl and her friend continued to call us names and actually physically try and jump at us (their guy friends were holding them back) and the bouncer and the bartender did nothing. when i asked him if he could hear the insults the girl was yelling at us he said he "wasn't listening." how convenient. and scary.

i would definitely say watch your back if you are sane, professional, educated and of any ethnic culture. otherwise you may get the gh*tto sl*pped out of you by the ever diligent peace keeping forces manning the joint. honestly, i HATE to say it, but it seems to be the case. go up the street to tangier or to AKBAR or someplace divey-er but safer like coach and horses on sunset. this place ain't safe for normal people.
