great good food, best waffles, good great chicken, best fried chicken, great service, best casual place, really quite good wacky combination
Whenever one thinks of Chicken n' Waffles, Roscoe's is the first and only place that comes to mind. Chicken is perfectly fried and juicy. And waffle is the perfect sweet compliment.
Go, just to say that you did.. If your visiting L.A. you do need to eat here. If going during peak meal hours, plan on waiting a while out on the street as there is no room to wait inside. You'll want to order the chicken and waffles of course, just to say that you did. But dont get your hopes to high on the taste. The fried chicken is good, but by no means great. Same goes for the waffles. When they are busy, service is attrocious, so be patient. Price is fair.
Yumm. If this is what you crave...nothing can beat it! My favorite is the chicken omelet....sounds crazy, but its delicious. And of course anything they do is with southern love and will leave you full, but wanting more. Great LA staple, everyone should try!
Odd combination, but suprisingly good. Down home food, makes you think you're in the south. Great chicken and the combination with the waffles and syrup, which without tasting it sounds REALLY odd is really quite good. Great service, friendly staff. I'd highly recommend this joint.
Great Waffles. This restaurant surprised me. I came with a friend, liking fried chicken, but not really eating it often. I loved the food. It was spectacular chicken and the waffles taste better than any I've ever had. I got the Carol C.'s I can't go that much because the meals are so heavy, but when I do go, it's delicious. The only problem with it is the wait. It's not very organized and we had to wait for at least a half an hour both times I was there. Go, see for yourself about the chicken and waffles.
delicious comfort food!!. I've been here a few times but went again because my boyfriend had never gone. We ended up waiting about an hour and fifteen minutes (Sunday at 1PM)...which wasn't pleasant but is to be expected. The chicken is always delicious, moist and juicy on the inside, packed with flavor and the best fried chicken I've had anywhere. I'm not as big of a fan of the waffles, which if you don't drench in syrup can be a little dry. He got the fried chicken with gravy which was really good also. Just a note, he usually eats like a horse and even he could barely finish the 1/2 chicken with 2 waffles special, so be forewarned. Cornbread was decent although I thought it was a bit expensive at $2 for one piece. Overall, food is delicious, service is lacking but not surprising since it's not exactly a fancy sit down meal. If you've never gone, you definitely have to try it!!!
forget the hype.
What an incredible disappointment.
The service was decent, while the restaurant itself was a bit small. I didn't mind that it was cramped and poorly lit because that gave it a bit of atmosphere, almost.
He got the chicken(southern style) and waffles, and I got the red beans, rice, corn bread and fried chicken (thigh). We also shared a salad between the two of us.
The side salad was small for its price. Pretty standard lettuce, tomato, carrot, with some slices of celery and radishes.
The fried chicken was boring and borderline dry. There was absolutely nothing spectacular about this chicken. The waffles were soggy and somewhat small.
My red beans and rice tasted like boiled red beans with uncle ben's rice from a box. I also did not like the cornbread because it was dry and not sweet at all ( I like it a tiny bit sweet).
I can't understand what all the commotion is about this place. If you are going to make some novel combination like waffles and chicken, at least try to make it taste good
Can't beat the waffles!!. Roscoe's waffles are the best I've had. Add the fried chicken for a meal you can't beat. If you're in LA, Roscoe's is a must visit.
Amazing!!. This place is amazing! I've never had fried chicken that tastes so good. The waffles are also incredible but the biggest surprise for me was the grits! I never expected to find home-style Southern cooking in Cali but I'm glad I did! Can't wait to try the rest of the menu...
Scoe's!. Love the greasy chicken soaked in gravy. Loved the waffles. Loved it. Too bad it's only in LA.
An LA Institution.
Food trends come and go in LA but you can always count on Roscoe's when simple, down home food made from the heart is what you desire. Sure the fried chicken is as good as anything east of the Mississippi and the waffles are the kind you just can't make at home, but the real gems on the menu are dishes like chicken livers with rice and gravy, house made chicken sausage and eggs, biscuits and gravy... and contrary to what they may think in the South, you can find good grits west of the Mississippi, get them smothered with cheese at Roscoe's.
Long live Roscoe's.
