good dumpy bar, like dive bar, unique staff, great place, clean bathroom, huge dive bar fan, love atmosphere
The Powerhouse Bar in Hollywood CA! my "Cheers"!. Just moved back to Hollywood from Michigan after several years and discovered the Powerhouse bar! A little shot and a beer joint unlike most of the trendy meat market clubs on Hollywood Blvd! Felt comfy immediately! Great drinks! Great staff! Cool people! Made many friends there already! Its where I go to chill and hang out! Its my "Cheers"!
The dive... Never gotten enough of this place but the little I've gotten has been great. Here's to possibly visiting more often cause this place is sweet!
best dive bar in hollywood. love this bar. it's dark, it's grungy, it rocks!! the bartenders are cool, there's a jukebox packed with good music, and the drinks are strong. it's the chill drink with your friends without having to get all dressed up just because you're in hollywood. best time ever.
Dive. Bar.. Yup. This is it. This is a dive bar. The laminate tiles are hanging from the tall ceilings (my friend thought they were about to fall on her at any second). Some weird old guy tried to start a fight with me because he thought I was talking about him (I am like the most innocent-looking girl ever). The drinks are VERY strong. Two and I was feeling it. And the jukebox had a really great selection. Not too crowded either, which was great. (And the bathroom was clean, which is remarkable for a dive bar!)
One of the best dive bars ever. If you like dive bars then you will love this place. Great drink prices and the drinks are STIFF!! I love the atmosphere, especially the velvet clown painting. The best part of my night at Power House was watching the fight outside, it felt like home. I'm going to be there a lot.
Visiting Hollywood, but don't wanna spend a ton of cash on drinks? Visit this place!. I was visiting the Los Angeles area for the first time this past week and figured I had to at least experience Hollywood. As my cousin & I were walking past the Mann's Chinese Theater he says "Yeah, Hollywood is a cool experience, but it's just tourist trap. There are no good bars in this area of town.". Au contraire! I am a huge dive bar fan, and even this one in the middle of tourist hell lives up to the hype it's getting on this site. No beer on tap except the glorious headache-inducing nectar of the gods, Pabst's Blue Ribbon. Stiff cocktails as well. I highly recommend this joint...
A 10.
Refreshing. A great place to hang with friends or meet some "interesting" new ones.
The drinks: WELL worth the price.
The service: friendly and inviting - they want you there.
The sound is surprisingly good and you can catch a game on one of the 3 tv's.
I'd stay all night with my frinds if they only had nicer bathrooms - girls draw the line.
ThePowerHouseRocks!. TPH is a classic. Cheap beer, cheap bar, super cool staff and a laid back clientelle that's more into fun than being a hipster. Hopefully it doesn't get turned into a glam bar since the neighborhood has cleaned up so much. And hopefully its #1 Dive Bar rating doesn't turn it trendy.
No dress code, no guest list--escape the glitterati at this rockin' and raucous Hollywood dive bar..
The Scene
Standing directly across the street from the grand Hollywood & Highland complex, this grungy, neighborhood dive bar is the antithesis of the new vision city planners have for the legendary Hollywood Boulevard strip. The dingy, hole-in-the-wall is more trashy than trendy, but its patrons don't come here for the ambience. It's all about the pitchers of PBR and the "Roadhouse" behavior that draws the wayward barfly here. The wise-cracking bartender, stiff cocktails, classic rock-filled jukebox, darts and pinball games will keep you busy, while the rowdy barroom banter will keep you alert.
The Draw
The crowd ranges from heavy-metal mullethead to the blue-haired skate-punk to "Shallow Hal" star Jack Black. If you can handle your booze, are up-to-date on WWE news and can name three Thin Lizzy albums, then you can hang.
Like No Other!. This place is one of a kind. Locals, tourists, and stars are often found just dumping quarters in the jukebox, tossing the beat up darts, or just mingling. The staff is unique. This is a Hollywood must see.
