What People Are Saying About Pure Luck Restaurant

Pure Luck is conveniently located at the epicenter of the East Side’s hipster bicyclist scene – an area known as "MelHel." The Melrose Heliotrope junction boasts several bike shops and crowds of sweaty vegan kids looking for cheap eats and good beer. Pure Luck fulfills both those needs in a nicely revamped old Korean bar – its menu offering a nice selection of veggie comfort foods. Examples? How about a thick, wonderfully satisfying borscht or jackfruit burrito that don’t taste like meat necessarily but boy is it good. Add to that a carefully curated collection of microbrews and you'll…

DONT EVER EAT HERE!!

After reading the reviews I was very excited to try this place. My fiance and I had some family in town and wanted to take them to an awesome vegan restaurant. It was very crowded when we got there at 7pm but we knew we would probably be in for a wait. Especially because Im sure theres only 9 tables in the building. We waited for about 20 min for our name to be called then we were seated. We ordered our beers and then 10 min later I guess someone who was a bus boy came over and said they were out of two of the 4 beers we ordered..and they were out of another one we didnt. Okay, sometimes you run out of beer..I get it, no problem. So we ordered something else, and waited another 10 min to receive our second order. Our waitress brought us our drinks and then took our order and proceeded to disappear FOR AN ENTIRE HOUR!!!!!!!!!! SHE DIDNT CHECK ON US ONCE!!! We couldnt even find her in the restaurant!! THEN she came to our table and said "oh I guess you didnt get your food huh?"..... she left and my fiance followed her to ask if the kitchen had even gotten our ticket and she said "oh..i think it got lost.." so he said we were just going to leave and that he assumed the drinks were on the house and she said "YEA.. see you later!!" I HAVE NEVER had service this bad... if she had come over and apologized and said "Im so sorry I totally forgot to put your order in but I promise it will be out very soon!" we would have stayed.. but that was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant and I would never eat here again!

This was my first time eating vegan food, and i love it! Even if you aren't vegan you'll still love the food. the prices weren't to high and you get way more than you can finish. But I must say.. don't use google maps to find this place, my friend and I got lost. XD Heliotrope is a very strange street. In Aug I brought my grandma and her friend to try amazing Vegan food for the first time to find out the owner sold the place. Apperntly the owner wanted to open a new business focusing on beer. I am so disappointed. I literally cried. I still haven't found a place that was as good as this one :(
- Pros: nice people
- Cons: hard to find, questionable area
Best Vegan Anywhere and Fabulous Wines and Beer

I'm not a vegan and neither is my boyfriend, but as a food lover, anything experimental, innovative and delicious scores highly in my book. This restaurant is fabulous. The jackfruit carnitas tacos are to die for, you'd never believe they were made with fruit! We also had the rosemary fries and fried dill pickles, which were so good. The beer list, however, is even cooler. They had a Cabernale-a mix between a cabernet and a beer...so interesing and good. I can't rave enough about this restaurant. You'll be pleasantly surprised and addicted.
- Pros: great food, great beer
- Cons: addictive
innovative vegan food + quality beer = hells yeah!

Too many good things to eat. A nice range of sandwiches, salads, soups, and Mexican dishes--all vegan. They use tofu and this incredible jackfruit adaptation. I had the BBQ "pulled pork" jackfruit sandwich on a rustic roll I had read so much about. Damn. No wonder the cartoon piglet on the menu is smiling. Mighty damn good. On the side were these gnocci-like fries with some kind of lovely sauce. Can't wait to go back. Also, they have fried pickle chips (!) and a range of soju cocktails. Niftycool. All good beers on tap (no mainstream mass market swill). I was told that starting tomorrow (July 1, 2008), they will have table service, so no need to order at the counter before you sit down. If they ever open the patio, it will be 100% paradise. Meanwhile, 98% is just fine.
- Pros: great selection, across the street from Scoops, great beers
- Cons: small dining room
