Serves Raw Catfish & Won't Acknowledge It!.
Went to the location on Main last night. Ordered the bland oysters, yummy but gritty clams, and the catfish with fries.
Now, there's a reason catfish is never served in sushi: it's not meant to be eaten raw!! I have photos posted on yelp for your review. Just search for raw catfish.
My brother and I each had 1 fillet out of 5 and immediately noticed the fish was off. We didn't want to make a big deal out of it at first, but decided not to risk food poisoning. When we asked the manager, Sao, for a HALF order of shrimp in exchange, we were told that the policy was not to return food simply because customers weren't satisfied. Uh, did I mention the fish was RAW and so RANCID that my cat would vomit it out?
We were then told that their fish was always prepared this way and that catfish has a smell to it. True, catfish has grassy undertones--not old fishy ones. BTW, we've eaten at the same location before and have never been so unhappy with the fish. The food was left unexchanged.
Felt bad for the servers; not their fault the manager showed such bad judgment and that the company has a policy which endangers public health. I immediately called my credit card company and had the charges reversed. Still suffered through the squirts today.
Bad, raw seafood can have very bad consequences. Save your tummy and stay away!!
Nice place to hang out and eat good grub. Good Stuff!! This place is a bit small, but the atmosphere is good and the food, is for the most part fresh and tasty. The Catfish Basket for $8.99 is a steal with 4 to 6 pieces of crispy moist fish. You can't beat the fresh Cajun shrimp either, though be warned the shrimp is served in authentic style with heads and claws attached. I definitely would recommend this spot. For fans of the Alhambra restaurant, a larger place is opening on Main Street in April.
it's all a con!. This place is terrible. Perhaps it was good in the past, but I can't imagine how. Imposters - like the mcdonald's of cajun food. BAD.
Can't get enough. One of the best seafood restaurants you can get in this city. Love the shrimps, fresh oysters and corns. There are also choices of king crab legs, crabs, crawfish and as well as non-seafood stuff. The shrimps are so good that always make me craving more and more. The only drawback is there's always a linnnnnnnnnnnnne every time I go there.
Texas-based chain brings Louisiana-style seafood to SoCal.. There’s usually a crowd waiting (for up to an hour, or more) outside this modest Alhambra spot. The smallish space is rustic and festive—think fish nets, nautical rope, license plates and Mardi Gras beads. Tables are covered in butcher paper, diners are promptly bibbed (trust us, keep it on), and peel it, crack it or shuck-it-yourself seafood is served swimming in sauce in giant plastic bags that are unceremoniously plopped on your table by any one of the rotating team of waiters. The menu is simple: shrimp, crawfish and crab (blue, Dungeness or king crab legs), served with your choice of seasoning, including Cajun, lemon pepper, garlic butter or all of the above (“the whole sha-bang!”). The latter is the favorite option for shrimp, although it can be a bit much; we prefer limiting our shrimp and crawfish to Cajun seasoning. If you’re not in the mood to roll up your sleeves and get dirty, which you positively will, opt for a basket of fried catfish, oysters or shrimp, already-shucked raw oysters or a flavor-packed cup of gumbo. Be sure and add corn and potatoes to your crawfish, and don’t skip the side of Cajun fries. Expect to leave reeking of garlic, with spices lodged under your fingernails, stains on your shirt and the satisfied feeling of working for your meal.
great seafood restaurant. The restaurant has a seafood theme with fishing nets and pictures hanging on the walls. In between are signatures of all the people who came though the place. The waiters are nice and friendly. Once you are seated and ready, they go by and put a bib so your cloths dont get all dirty when you are finished eating. You have to get an order of the Cajun fries. The shrimp is really good. It is loaded with garlic and flavor from the sauces. They also have other seafood you can order like oysters, king crab legs, crayfish, and gumbo. I liked this place a lot compared to some other seafood restaurants around the neighborhood. The only problem with The Boiling Crab is the lines can be very long at peak hours starting at 6. It is defiantly worth the wait. I am very pleased and go back every time Im craving seafood!
