Everyone's abuzz about Brentwood's most exciting recent restaurant debut thanks to owners Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne. (You know, the ladies of Lucques and A.O.C. fame.) With nary a reminder of its plebian past as a Hamburger Hamlet, this airy, multi-room space is part gourmet deli, part bar, part restaurant and all scene ... at least for well-heeled folk of a certain age. The small foyer at the entrance is where the gaggle of Barbies stand, ostensibly to welcome guests … and tell them how long the wait will be even with a reservation. To the left of the hostess entrance is the larder…

The most beautiful restaurant in LA
by DianaTakesaBite at Citysearch
It's hard to walk into the main dining room at Tavern without gasping. The cozy velour couches, trees that reach up toward the canvas-lined ceiling, and rustic touches that lend the restaurant a familial quality, all make it hard to leave the ambient space. It's a place to linger long after the final bite of the formidable "Snicker's Bar" dessert, a place to sip mimosas and nibble monkey bread over brunch with the girls, and a place to go when a special occasion is on the calendar. The only caveat is the food, which sounds impressive on the menu, but lacks the "wow" factor in execution. Fortunately, the rest of the Tavern package more than compensates for any disappointment encountered on the pristine white plates.
- Pros: Atmosphere, "Snicker's Bar" dessert, monkey bread
- Cons: Service can be slow, food only above average
Rip-off!

My family went to this place for Xmas dinner, $100 per head set menu. We ordered lobsters for the main dish. What we got was a mysterious pasta with a few broken bits of lobster, which was not what to be expected from the menu description. The desert again was mundane, not what to be expected of a $100 dinner. We complained (one of us was a professional French chef from New York), but the manager was not accommodating at all. We have lived in the area for 20 years and this was the worst culinary experience ever in the neighborhood.
- Pros: Interior
- Cons: Dishonesty, Bad food
This Might Be My Favorite Restaurant Ever
by thrine13 at Citysearch
When Tavern popped up less than a block away from my apartment, my life literally changed. My husband and I go there for everything from a freshly baked loaf of blueberry bread to our morning lattes, to casual conversation with the friendly and charismatic staff, Sunday brunch, and spur-of-the-moment cocktails. Every single thing I have ever tasted from Tavern has been the best I've ever had. Eggs in the morning - amazing. Baked goods from the Larder - amazing. The always changing and complex cocktails at the bar - amazing. Don't even get me started on the dinner menu. We went once and had the duck confit with cherry and beef with gnocci - we're still talking about it months later. The ambiance is so welcoming, I feel like I'm at someone's beautiful home. My mom told me all she wants for Christmas is a gift certificate to Tavern - and she lives in Minnesota! I could go on and on....
- Pros: Service, Food, Decor, Ambiance, Mixology
- Cons: Price
Best food in Los Angeles
by eriklarsen at Citysearch
I have been to all the best restaurants in Los Angeles and Tavern I have been to now 6 times and I have been impressed each and every time. The food is simply PERFECT. My last dinner I had the beef short ribs and they were the best I have had in my life. I was literally oo and ahhh ing at the table. Desserts are excellent as well-the ricotta cheesecake is divine; however, I would prefer a wider dessert arrangement and more French based desserts. Service is quite good also but the girls at the front have an attitude as though they own the place. Quite unwelcoming.
The review(s) that say this place is a hip scene are plain wrong. This is NOT the young Hollywood crowd-the bar is cougar central, so if you're into that sort of "scene" this is your place, but dont come here looking to meet that hot 20 year old model.
- Pros: Truly superb cuisine-the best I have had in LA
- Cons: Cougar central - not a true hip scene
best Eggs Benedict in town!
by dineoutluver at Citysearch
I had a brunch here on Saturday noon.
Absolutely the best and most sophisticated Eggs Benedict (Tavern Benedict) I ever had in my life! It uses Prochuto... yummm! Good service, cute decor. Mimosa for $16 was a little too expensive (I ordered it without checking the price) so I won't order it the next time!
- Pros: Nice Atmosphere, Great Food
