Secreted away from the wild crawl of the Sunset Strip is where you'll find this picturesque English hideaway that was once home to Charlie Chaplin. Now, the iconic property, which was originally built in 1924, has been restored with 14 bungalows (11 of which are for B&B use, the other three for long-term stays), gorgeous gardens and that sort of insouciant Hollywood glamour a la Chateau Marmont. I'm finally Home!

by Nursedelrio at Citysearch

My family and I moved here from Washington a few months ago. The first place we rented was a home in Malibu. We lasted only one month there, due to the high rent, unlivable conditions and an unreasonable landlord. I was about to give up when my daughter found, on the net, a place called The Charlie. The moment we arrived, we were greeted by the nicest woman, who showed us all the available bungalows for rent.My family and I couldn't believe our eyes, it was as if we had landed on an oasis. The rentals were all beautiful and reasonably priced and if that wasn't enough, the rent included everything from free cable to free cleaning service. Not only is the owner the most hospitable person I ever met but the entire staff is courteous and helpful. The only problem I'm having is that I never want to leave this shangrila.
