Don't forget that Cacao serves really great breakfasts. The Huevos a la Mexicana comes with chiles, cotija cheese, tomatoes and onions with beans on the side. The corn tortillas are fresh and piping hot. The drip coffee with Mexican spices is bottomless and amazing.
You must order the mole fries, what a revelation! Sweet little spot for a nice Mexican meal. Great for weekend brunch too.
In a region that's cram-packed with South-of-the-Border fare, this teeny cafe in retro-cool Eagle Rock is a standout. Dishes are vibrantly seasoned with spices that tease the tongue, making you wonder: what is that flavor? Don't miss the crispy duck skin tacos and the calabasitas, a gorgeous squash salad.
Get the three little pigs, a combination of three different preparations of pork served with rice, beans and the most amazing homemade tortillas. By far one of the best Mexican restaurants in Eagle Rock! And don't miss the cacao hot chocolate.
Eat Here!!! – Bacon & Chocolate tacos, wow. So good. Aztec Mexican food that you should not miss.
Citysearch Editorial Review – Eagle Rock’s modern Mexican deli is shedding some light on the Mexican and Central American delicacy that is the cacao drink. Hot cacao, “Abuelitas Mocha Latte” with sugar, cinnamon and almonds and the “Azteca Mocha Latte” made with all the former’s ingredients plus chamomile are just a couple of these yummy concoctions. But beyond teh exotic chocolate coffee drinks, the hearty breakfast menu brims with staples like huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos and quesadillas with vegetarian options, chilaquiles and the “O-MOLE-TTE,” a house specialty with eggs, chicken, cheddar cheese, onion, cilantro and mole sauce. There is also a taqueria menu, a separate torta menu and a list of Mexican specialties like the “Mole Poblano” made with their own cacao chile sauce, fried potato tacos with chorizo, pork belly cooked with tequila and Modelo beer, duck confit carnitas and much more. Cacao also offers a separate catering menu for events and parties.
Alimentos artesanales – It is a real treat to dine in because a lot of thought went into the decor. The food is wonderful and the restaurant offers unique Mexican chocolates and honey. The Aztec Mocha Latte is fabulous! Cacao is would easily get four stars if the staff were better trained; not all staff members can consistently make coffee bar items and it is a bit of a wait until they track down someone that can. It is worth the wait, though!
