Best Mexican Food In L.A.. My family has been eating at this inexpensive family style restaurant since the 1960s. The same sweet waitresses have been there forever and make you feel at home. There is no better burrito in the city. They have several, but you want the mixed regular. From Tacquitos to Chille Relleno, everything is a winner. The prices are ridiculously low. Two people can eat till you bust for under $20. Casual attire. Great place to pop in and eat when you're hungry.

Love it!!!!

Tomatillo! Pozole Rojo!. I have been eating here since 1981. Andy and his family are very nice and attentive. A few tips: (1) The hottest thing on the menu is the carne de puerco en salsa de tomatillo (typically known as chile verde). It is great if you like your Mexican (women and) food HAWT! The full plate is enormous. If you are a lightweight like me, you can order the same thing as a burrito; (2) The pozole rojo is excellent; (3) If the tomatillo is not hot enough for you, you can order off the menu some chiles gueros a la plancha; (4) The best place to eat is IN THE BAR -- but getting a spot is difficult as this little corner is full of regulars; (5) i gave it a positive for "romantic" but I just want to let you know this is not a tablecloth-and-candles place -- but definitely a lot of romance has been enacted here I can tell you for sure; (6) There is parking in the back alley parallel to Pico; (7) The Talpa is open LATE ... but do call ahead if you are stuck in traffic to make sure the kitchen is still open...

Fun for out-of-towners. When we have folks visiting from back east, this is where we take them for Mexican. It's got all of the traditional fare, and has a festive atmosphere.

talpa rules!. talpa restaurant on pico in west l.a. deserves a 10 rating! here's why #1 the food rules! authentic salsa, thick warm corn chips, pure creamy fresh guacamole, tacos, enchiladas , burritos all freshly made brought steaming hot. and those soups! #2 talpa has been in the same spot on pico bl. in west l.a. for years. it is a landmark #3 the staff and decor with the stained glass windows creates a friendly atmosphere, thanks in large part to the genorous use of murals( one coors beer to go to mexico city!) but talpa deserves a 10 rating because Brian "Big Lug" LaVette says so! tell the management Big Lug sent ya!
