House cafe joins an increasingly crowded restaurant row on Beverly Boulevard, perhaps positioning itself as a sort of upscale alternative to Swingers or Kings Road Cafe. The Bruce Marder-designed and owned space (he's the force behind well-liked Capo restaurant in Santa Monica) serves the basics at breakfast (huevos rancheros, orange pancakes) but at lunch attempts more specialty dishes. Think prosciutto egg panino or a wagyu “Kobe style” burger. Managed by a former BLT employee, House has some of the qualities of finer restaurants in town, minus the pretention. The food may not garner awards, but the casual setting may win over those who enjoy up-market pasta dishes (check the daily specials) and salads like burrata caprese. Outdoor seating options and quiet indoor tables make this a good choice for a business lunch.
