House cafe joins an increasingly crowded restaurant row on Beverly Boulevard, perhaps positioning itself as a sort of upscale alternative to Swingers or Kings Road Cafe. The Bruce Marder-designed and owned space (he's the force behind well-liked Capo restaurant in Santa Monica) serves the basics at breakfast (huevos rancheros, orange pancakes) but at lunch attempts more specialty dishes. Think prosciutto egg panino or a wagyu “Kobe style” burger. Managed by a former BLT employee, House has some of the qualities of finer restaurants in town, minus the pretention.
