Torrance was in dire need of an upscale hotel to service the many executives who fly into the area on a weekly basis from Japan, and it looks like the Miyako Hybrid has filled that niche. But make no mistake: the Miyako is not strictly a business hotel. The 208-room property welcomes all and features SoCal-style hospitality from its professional staff. Rooms are very spacious (450 square feet or more) and feature thoughtful design touches such as clear glass in the Japanese-style showers that allow one to watch TV while showering. The modern rooms boast Western size with straight-from-Nippon details (such as the Japanese-sized oversized baths and modern toilets)--much to the delight of both U.S. and Japanese travelers. The entire hotel is eco-friendly, as the "hybrid" name hints at, so don't even think about requesting a smoking room at the Miyako. Event facilities here are not huge, but sizable enough to satisfy most corporate needs. For a larger space, consider booking the stylish 180-capacity restaurant on site, Gonpachi.
