Not all our NYC imports are hyped to the hilt, so do yourself a favor and get over to the Brentwood Country Mart’s outlet for a taste of this East Coast swimsuit maven’s well-constructed, multi-textured wares. Since launching her line of clever swimwear for women in 1993, Mills’ line has branched out to include edgy and inventive silhouettes for the shapely and the slender in the form of dresses, jackets, tops and pants. Her palette is pretty dark: black, gray and olive making up most of the color canvas, but maybe that’s why the clothes are so urban chic. A black mid-length, short-sleeve sheath morphs into more complicated shapes by virtue of strategically placed silver snaps that line the front and side, creating a rockin’ DIY sensibility. Other short dresses are embellished with ties, leather straps and other accoutrements that make for haute accents to her minimalist aesthetic. There’s also a substantial selection of Inhabit sweaters, cardigans and tops. Fogal provides the luxurious tights and stockings, and the jewelry and accessories are leathery, strappy and pointy—primo picks for super-cool city ladies.
