This modest Thai restaurant, by the same owners as the Green Papaya in Alhambra, has been slowly winning over loft-dwelling Downtown residents with reasonably priced dishes such as Tom Ka Gai ($6), green curry fried rice ($11) and standby classics such as Pad Thai ($10). The decor is simple yet sophisticated, with high ceilings and a front bar. A large chuck of their business is pickup and delivery-based, yet Soi 7 is grown-up enough to bring a date for dinner (or hold a business lunch ... the restaurant seats around 60 and is usually quiet). Produce is organic and all beef and pork is Niman Ranch. Be sure to try the duck penang if you are not in a hurry--it's a tropical blend of curry, pineapple and jasmine rice.
