This San Francisco-based mini chain is so popular with hungry office workers in SF's SOMA district, that lines often stretch outside of the restaurant at peak lunch hours daily. Why the cult-like appeal? Naturally, it's the fantastic salads that are mixed fresh on the spot while you order. Our favorite? Try the flavorful "Maui," with butter lettuce, coriander crusted seared ahi tuna, avocado, cherry tomatoes, mango, cucumber, red onion, mango citrus vinaigrette topped with crushed macadamia nuts. Sure, it's a bit expensive (the Maui will set you back $11 or so), but these salads are massive and taste just as good the next day, so consider it two meals. Mixt Greens also offers up healthy sandwiches (though not all veggie), all made from locally sourced ingredients. Fans of restaurants such as Real Food Daily and Tender Greens will naturally gravitate towards Mixt Greens, which might just have some of the tastiest lunch options downtown for the health-conscious set (who want a stylish environment in which to eat, too, thank you very much).
