TRULY UNHAPPY with 3 HOURS LATE, LACK OF COMMUNICATION and C – I had booked MOVERS in LONG BEACH based on the good reviews. On my Saturday move day, I received a call 10 minutes prior to my 9AM -10AM time window that the driver & mover were going be 1/2 hour late. I was told by the dispatcher that driver as out the late the day before thus being 1/2 hour late. I also discovered that their truck was coming from SAN FERNANDO VALLEY. VAN NUYS to be exact. I call back at 10:30AM to check on their status and am told they are on their way. I call back at NOON...and find out they were having problems staffing a new driver but that their way. They arrive at 12:45PM.
EMILY at MOVERS in LONG BEACH had booked my reservation 5 days prior (and taken my $100 Amex deposit immediately) but FAILED to COMMUNICATE to me that her truck was coming from VAN NUYS. EMILY did communicate that my job would need 2 movers at $75 a/HR and it would be a 3 HR minimum. I come to find out on my move day that all trucks they had in Long Beach were booked. My move was 4.5 MILES from downtown Long Beach to Belmont Heights. I would NOT have booked this company if I had been communicated that her truck was from San Fernando Valley. They are at the mercy of the 405 freeway and 45 MILES of HOLIDAY Traffic.
6 HOURS LATER... at 6:45PM the movers are done. I moved from a 950 sq. ft. loft to a 975 sq. ft. home. $660 dollars later, we discover that HARP Movers (separate billing group from MOVERS in LONG BEACH)...does not take credit cards. My husband and I haven't had personal checks for the last 2 years so we couldn't write a check. Who carries that much cash and would have predicted how long it would take. I drive to the nearest ATM at 7pm and withdraw $250 as a good faith since my daily allowance is only $300. Balance to be worked out on Monday.
SIDE NOTE: We were also shocked to find out it cost us $150 to crate our TV. Crating our TV meant wrapping the sides in plastic and covering it up with a blanket. The bottom of the TV stand was completely exposed. I thought crating involved wood and all 6 sides be covered. This did not help when it rained late Saturday night during our move.
The 2 Harp Mover guys were great. They were diligent about getting the job done and getting our furniture and boxes to the new home. No complaints on the staff of 2 that actually did the work. They were nice and friendly.
So there you have it. I was upset and called EMILY's group MONDAY am to let her know what transpired and wished that she had communicated that her truck was from VAN NUYS and that they were 3 HRS late. There was nothing she could say after and ended up hanging up on me (that's real professional). The HARP VAN NUYS group ended up discounted us $50 and we settled the balance with a cashiers check.
LESSON LEARNED: Double check to know where your moving truck is dispatch from...even if the booking company is local.
DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY! – I reserved this moving company 10 days before my scheduled move. I initially spoke with Sherry who seemed very nice and was quick to reserve the day and assured me that I would be scheduled for an AM pick up. She was also quick to take a $100 deposit on my credit card.
The following week (several days before my move) when I hadn't heard anything back, I called them. I called on three separate days within a week of the move and spoke with three different people who all assured me that the move was confirmed.
Well, lo and behold, the day before the move at 2:30pm (less than 24 hrs before the scheduled move on a holiday weekend), I get a call from EMILY who informs me that they have to cancel the move because they simply don't have enough movers. She said she was very sorry but there was nothing they could do. As for all the confirmations I got via phone, she said none of those people had the authority to give the confirmation.
She gave no other excuses and when I insisted that they try to help me out and fit me into their schedule (as they had promised) she said it just wasn't going to happen.
My advice is to steer clear of this company. There are plenty others out there. I ended up going with All American Van Lines. They work out of Tarzana, California. They were great!
good moving experience – Kirill set up the move, even calling me overseas to confirm the details. The movers were friendly and efficient - the whole move took one day. I would use them again if need be.
Thank you – I just wanted to let you know that in all my years of moving I have never been so happy with the moving company as I was today. From the very beginning the sales rep. was very helpful and reassuring.
Outstanding service! – I have moved quite a few times in the past few years and I have to say, I have never experienced such professionalism during a move. If up till now moving was a stressful experience, now that I met Long Beach movers, its not anymore! They were puntual, careful and friendly and with out no doubt i will be using there services in my next move.
THEY ARE greate for me – They unpacked as quickly as they came and even asked where to put the items, not just leaving it in piles. They were a great team you could tell knew how to work together as my first time using a company, i didn't even have to direct them in anyway. I will definitely be using this company again!
BEST MOVERS – It was a pleasure working with everyone at Long Beach Moving and I highly recommend them.
The actual moving process was the least stressful aspect of moving, thanks .
2 Words - Stand Back! – The guys personable and professional, they took my bed apart and put it back together, gave me boxes and tape when I ran out, and treated my electronics with more care than I do. They were courteous to my new neighbors, dealt with the parking, and didn't comment about all of the stairs!
Wrapped all of the furniture to help protect it. – They put pads on the floors so they weren't tracking dirt in every trip in or out of the house, they wrapped all of the furniture to help protect it, and the guys were really nice. I have a business too and have referred them to several of my customers, and every one of them has been very pleased. They apparently do commercial moves as well as residential, I would recommend them to anyone.
Top notch service! – The move went very smoothly. The team of movers that I worked with were wonderful. Right from the start they were extremely professional and helpful. I would definitely use them again and I recommend them to the citysearch community with confidence.
