The vibe is more modern lounge while the food of thick cuts, ravioli and sliders harkens back to a traditional steakhouse.
Great Steaks!! Cool place!. Very cool steakhouse with high quality meats! I had the $65 Kobe steak with the brazilian sauce and my wife had the $36 Kansas fillet with the cabernet sauce. I think i liked the kansas fillet better! The kobe wasnt as perfectly marbled and tender as the ones i had in tokyo, Bangkok and Manila.(to think Kobe is from US cattle!) But, The Kansas filet was awesome. I cant wait to try the 40day dry aged NY Strip or the Porterhouse. I love Peter Luger steakhouse & I think this place comes close to the quality! The steaks are a little salty for my taste though...but it has a lot of flavor. We had the veggie plate for sides and it was a lot of food. I should leave space for dessert next time. Love this place...but save the $$ on the Kobe steak.
Romantic Restaurant. I found the restaurant through city search and went their for Valentine's Day and loved it. They even had Valentine's Day specials. The lighting and music were perfect and the waitress came around enough times to check on us. The food was better than expected! I would recommend this restaurant to others and plan on going back myself.
A solid steakhouse. Resisting the temptation of so many places on Sunset to be more hype than substance, Balboa has excellent cuts of meat, not a lot of 'tude, good salads, good sides and a nice wine selection which was/is half price on Sundays. (But this restaurant has no business in any "fine dining" category with the likes of L'Orangerie. It's a totally different animal).
Prime Steaks. I have dined at many of the best Steak Houses in the country, from NYC to Chicago, etc. Balboa beats out almost all of them, plus adds a twist on the typical Steak House. You can tell that the owner cares about the full experience of the guest and that means the service is on and the place is cool. Overall a great experience every time.
Suttlties. My most recent dinner at Balboa came 2 weeks ago. The service seemed off that night. I had trouble getting a worthwhile reccomendation on wine, which the server seemingly only would reccomend one that costs at least $70 and up. The manager that night was downright complacent to any of my remarks. It was just ok. And if Im spending $150 on 2 people, I want more than that. The food was good, but the steak temperatures were off. Reservation was late, but hostess were friendly.
A Great Place to Eat!. You must be there on Sunday night for their Wine Lovers special. The wine list is half-price! Had dinner there on 10/5 and it was excellent. Fantastic service and great food. The bone-in filet was a bit tough but the porterhouse was perfect. Super table-side preparation of the Cesar salad. This is a must-visit place with a fun crowd and super service. I will be back!
Love the blue cheese rub!. I ordered a Kasas City bone-in steak with blue cheese rub, it was simply excellent! I also had the "cookie and ice-cream" (forgot what it was called on the menu) as dessert and it was very good too. The wait staff at the restaurant and the bartender at the lounge were all nice and friendly. You must make a reservation though as the restaurant is always quite busy.
Good and cheap. I wouldnt exactly say cheap, but the food is veryyyy reasonable. Especially if you eat during lunch, sandwiches are just about $10 each. The steak sandwich was really good, with contrasting tastes of the beefm, peppers and vinegar. Had the jumbo cookie with ice cream for dessert, and it was good too. Though very small, the restaurant is nicely decorated and has a nice loungey feel. Total for 2 people during lunch (pre-tax and tip) only $53. Waiters really nice and attentive too.
yum.
I have eaten at Balboa at least 10 times and I have had a wonderful meal each time. The sevice is great and the food is really the best.
Have the NY steak! You wont find a better steak in this town!
Second to None. I've eaten here many times and I'm NEVER disappointed. The food, service and ambience makes me feel like royalty. Please don't ever change and keep up the great work!
