Intimate space, curated beer and wine, comfortable booths and sophisticated music allows you to enjoy the conversation/people watching/drinking on an adult level. Wednesday nights for live jazz.
Citysearch Editorial Review. Located in still-emerging Historic Filipino Town (HiFi) just south of Echo Park, this laidback beer and wine bar draws everyone from Eastside hipsters to the Derby Dolls. Formerly a rough-around-the-edges ranchero bar called Lupita's, the space has transformed as much as the clientele. Inside, the small, shotgun space is simple, with a bar, banquettes and a few basic tables set against an exposed brick wall, cement floors and an antiqued ceiling. The low lights, flickering candles and jazz on the stereo give the space a romantic, Prohibition-era vibe. On the chalkboard menu behind the bar, expect to find around six glasses of wine and a dozen craft beers, including four draft selections. Options may include brews from regional outfits like Eagle Rock Brewery, Sudwerk, Moylan's and Bootlegger's. A lot of the brews come in big bottles that are perfect for sharing, but if you're looking for a bargain, go ahead and pony up five bucks for a 32-ounce can of Cold Spring. Pretzels, peanuts and occasional DJ sets are also thrown in the mix.
