Best kept secret in L.A.

Seriously...I'm astonished that this place isn't standing room only. I live 2 blocks away and would frequent the business that was here before the Village just because it was within walking distance. I was thrilled to see the place had changed ownership last year, but didn't have huge hopes. WOW...I have to say that even if it wasn't a stone's throw away, I would be coming here a few times a week.
This is the kind of place that you walk into and the smell of freshly baked pastries & bread carry you away. (I've always wondered why a lot of the "bakeries" in town don't really have that smell when you walk into them.) Brownies are my favorite, but they also make a damn fine red velvet cupcake and, on the weekends they have croissants that are mighty fine.
As for breakfasts, everything that I have tried has been stellar, and I've worked my way through the menu a couple of times now. Check out their specials board when you go in---if they happen to have the Polenta Hash you're in luck...it's awesome. Also, they have great soups (different kinds every day). Seriously, you can't go wrong here.
Bonus points: people are nice, they play cool music and they have free internet access.
