intersting food, creative, vibrant, filled with energy.
1st its different with each chef - check out the menu on line. expect to be surrounded by those who are really into food. Don't forget to check out who is bartender, the drinks can be awesome also.
Some nights the meal is a bargain, and others it feels too expensive - guess it depends on the chef.
The wines are just ok, but its cool that there is often a wine pairing available.
Some of my best meals of 2010 were here.
Good food, small portions, disastrous service. The concept is cool and interesting. I am a foodie and love to try new daring chefs. That said the food has to get to the table with utensils. We were seated an hour after our reservation and it was crowded so there really wasn't a comfortable place to wait. Starting to eat at 9:30 we were starving. There were four of us. Some dishes came with three pieces? We could not get water without asking three times. Our waiter was so nice and adorable but completely ineffective. I actually started to feel sorry for him...wrong job. Dishes came without forks on the table. The place was most definitely overbooked. I think if the booking numbers were kept to an appropriate level the staff might have a chance to provide service. Our service definitely did not warrant an 18% tip and I pride myself on being a generous tipper, but we had no choice because it was included. Would not return.
Citysearch Editorial Review. The name says it all. Opened in August 2010, Test Kitchen is a showcase for some of LA's hottest chefs and mixologists to experiment in that tastiest of labs and try out new ideas. So one night it might be pastry chef wunderkind Jordan Kahn doing a six-course Vietnamese beef feast or Rivera jefe John Sedlar whipping up (gasp!) a five-course "Hallucination." The revolving roster of LA's top mixologists also get in on the action with crafty cocktails created to complement the dishes of the night. Being a guinea pig never tasted so good.
