In Short – Inside the Marina's Waterside mall, one of L.A.'s most beloved and infamous sushi chefs may be reinventing how America eats the uncooked stuff. Local sushi lovers doff their Ray-Bans in this mod little room that's more akin to Pinkberry than a traditional sushi bar, with white designer snowflake lamps and a long wash of pastel aqua circles framing the bleached wood counter and cozy buttercream booths. In Nozawa's famed eponymous Studio City spot, the rule is: "Trust me." In the Marina, the omakase (chef's choice) practice is similar--guests choose between three different…
Editor's Tips
- Save Money:
- The price of each omakase choice includes tax and tip. No extra gratuities are accepted.
- What to Drink:
- Jade-hued iced green tea is a big crowd pleaser; there's also soda, Sapporo beer and a few different kinds of hot and cold sake.
- Parking:
- Instead of an address, look for the Waterfront Shopping Center on the east side of the street--the restaurant is located in the center of the mall.
- Where to Sit:
- Outside patio tables clustered around a large, gurgling fountain offer a pleasant al fresco (and kid-friendly) experience amid the salty Marina air.
Sushi...Done right

Love this place. Went here on a whim to check it out because I live in Venice and the sushi places there are crowded and really, well, not that good. The fish quality is excellent, the service is great, especially because when we were there, they were swamped, and without us even asking, they comped a few items on our plate.
So for anyone complaining about the "included gratuity", Well, everyone by now knows, standard is 20%, bare minimum is 18.5. But I get it, this is LA, and every self entitled assclown lives here and thinks they deserve special treatment as soon as they get off the bus from (fill in the blank). Just because useless celebrity reality TV fake stars don't tip, doesn't mean it should be the standard. I'm glad these guys cover their ass knowing that this city sucks as bad as the people inhabiting it. I tip an extra twenty to the manager just for doing it right, act accordingly. Anyone who has ever worked in the service industry in LA knows how much the public here sucks. If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to go out. I hope they pee in your sake.
Bottom line, this place is the cat's pajama's...do people still say that? Who cares, if you can find toro belly this good anywhere else, then go there.....but i doubt it.
P.S. "Good but smelled fishy
I like the chow, but it smelled fishy inside. They need to air it out."
Hey genius, you know what they make sushi out of right?
Morons....god, I hate the residents of this city. You ruin California.

Worth the money!

Fresh, delicious sushi. I would recommend getting one of the three combo dishes - that way you get a little taste of everything. Plenty of seating, but it fills up fast. Fast and friendly service. A little pricey, but definitely worth it for the taste.
Very underwhelming

I'm thoroughly disappointed that this place won best in the city; this undermines my confidence in the rest of CS ratings.
It is entirely mediocre -- bland ambiance, uninteresting food. We went once and agreed that we did not intend to return. Not because it was terrible but because nothing impressed us.
My favoriite sushi in the Marina!

Great local place. The fish swims off the plate!
- Pros: fresh, crab roll
- Cons: slightly pricey
