This boisterous Peruvian place is packed with groups of attractive, well-heeled LA types having the time of their lives (aided no doubt by the exceptional cocktails), but I had an equally enthralling time dining solo at the kitchen-facing bar, because watching the kitchen do their thing is the best kind of theater possible. Loved all the causas, the black cod anticucho, and the scallops. Do not pass on dessert. Actually, try not to pass on anything--there's something to be said for going with a group, if it means you can order the entire menu.
Ricardo Zarate's hip, high end Peruvian eatery maximizes flavor in small plates like albacore causas (similar to sushi, but potatoes instead of rice) and lobster tartare.
Peruvian classic all gussied up. The causa and ceviches are all delicious.
Latin/Asian fusion done right. Great pisco sours and tapas style dishes! Chocolate fill churros to end the night!
Kind of noisy, but after you taste the food, you realize what all the fuss is about.
Great energy and atmosphere! I love the anticuchos and ceviche. Don't miss the diver scallops.
Pico is hopping.
Located on top of Sotto, this little corner of Pico near Beverwill seems to be hopping. I was happily eat at both as a regular. Then afterward your dinner, you are a half a block from the hip new Mr. C's Restaurant/Bar/Hotel (the newest addition from Cipriani).
Ambiance, vibe, cocktails and food are all great. My favorite dish was the seabass tiradito. They were all pretty good and my Martin Ricky drink was so good, the names of all the other dishes I loved escape me. Interesting dishes like papa a la huancaina- potato, quail egg, pancetta, chives- and locro de quinoa-quinoa pumkin stew, choclo, parmesan cheese, crispy tomato.
Only negative was the noise level. I was there with a large group and it was tough to hear anyone other than the person sitting next to me. That said, we all loved it and the noise level diminished as the night progressed. Also, the service was a bit forgetful at times, but I am sure this is just the restaurant getting it's routine down as it has only been open for two weeks.
I am agree with Nastassia.. this is the restaurant where people should not miss diver scallops. I dont know but the way the made it is so different base on its taste. And one more, their snow crab is one of the best. I've been there twice a month with family and so far we all love their sea foods menus.. Me and my husband are planning to choose their catering service for my daugter's birthday party :D

I've eaten here before and the food is good. Not transcendent, but good (Nowhere near as good as La Mar Cebichería Peruana in S.F.). But this Saturday night we had one of the most disagreeable eating (or NOT eating) experiences I've ever had in L.A. at Picca.
We had reservations for 6:15 on Saturday night. We arrived early (a few minutes), and were well dressed. The restaurant was WELL less than half full. We were then shown upstairs to a bar-type table all by ourselves. We complained that we wanted to sit on the main floor. The girl said "I'm sorry, these are the only tables we have." I pointed to MANY of the ones downstairs. "Those are all for parties of four," she replied. I pointed out that ALL of the four-tops were two-tops pushed together. I asked to see the manager.
We went back downstairs and I pointed out to the manager a couple dining by themselves. "Oh, they have another couple coming," he said. I pointed out that my wife and I had sat at the tables they said were ONLY for four people before. This did no good. "So, the key is to come as a couple and then say the other couple is late, right?" I asked. He sniffed, "Not in MY restaurant."
Had they made the slightest attempt to be conciliatory (even if they didn't honor our request), I would have stayed. But both the girl and ESPECIALLY the manager (working at 6:15 on April 28, 2012) was incredibly rude. We were not in any way loud or obnoxious about it, simply insistent. We were well dressed and were returning customers. It didn't matter.
IF YOU ARE A COUPLE BY YOURSELVES DINING AT PICCA ON A SATURDAY NIGHT, BE PREPARED TO BE TREATED AS A SECOND CLASS CITIZEN.
We WON'T be back and will tell EVERYONE we known about this experience. We have dined in every fine restaurant in L.A. and have never been treated so rudely by the management.
PS: We went on to Il Fornaio for dinner. You've got to love L.A. where such a great restaurant is "Plan B".
Causas are not to be missed, and cocktails are delicious!
