What People Are Saying About Versailles Restaurant

In Short – The happy-go-lucky atmosphere in this non-descript dining room is fueled by low prices and the thick garlic aroma. Waiters in guayaberas serve groups of college students, families and pre-bar hoppers. The house favorite garlic chicken in citrus marinade anchors the Cuban menu. Roast pork and salted, bay leaf-infused black beans run a close second to the famous fowl. Order everything with a side of sweet fried plantains.

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
Come early if you want the paella because it's often gone by 9pm and can take up to 45 minutes to prepare.
Save Time:
Don't let those long lines deter you--food is whisked out rapidly, so diners get in and out rapidly, too.

  2. Great food, service, atmosphere
  3. There are only two vegetarian dishes on the menu, and they both involve bananas, but they're really, really good bananas so fear not.
  4. The food's great!
  5. If you've never tried cuban food before, this is a great place for an introduction- you'll become a fan.
  6. My chicken dish was good but it was a bit odd for me to see large slices of onion piled on top.
  7. Loved the chicken.
  8. definitely liked the garlic chicken better than the carne asada although I didn't think it was nearly as good as everyone claims.
  9. ask for extra garlic sauce on the side and also order the pork tamales.
  10. But I have always enjoyed their food immensely, once at the main location and a few times at t.

  30. We all get tempted from time to time to order the occasional fish or steak, but this is simply not the place to do it.

  33. The garlic bread is very tasty too.

Consistently good (not great) food

by TastefulTammy at Citysearch

I love it. Waiters are dressed to the nines. Starches are lip-smacking rice, black beans, plantains and yucca. Meats are sauced with garlic, onion and butter as they should be. Yet somehow, it tastes tired. Maybe it's boring. Maybe I'm jaded as an Angeleno and I need some bells and whistles to make me believe that the Cuban food I'm eating is actually better than I think it is. It may be, 'cus I don't really know Cuban culture beyond their awesome contribution to jazz.

Good Food, Crappy Parking

by rbrown404 at Citysearch

The cuabn cuisine at this place is tasty and authentic. The prices are good and the staff is super friendly. My only gripe is that the parking at this place is VERY poorly laid out. I have seen an accident and more than a couple of dinged up car door in my travels to Versailles.

Great food guys, but gotta work on the parking lot.

Service!

by NYILOVEYOU at Citysearch

This place sucks! I have been going to this place since i was a kid and i cant believe it has changed so much. You can tell they are using cheaper products cause thier chciken doesnt taste the same and I know for a fact thier servers pick their customers. They fight over the white people and sit them in the front of the restauratn and everyone else in the back. Next time you go in....chech that out its sad.

The servers are unattentive and rude. I will never be coming back

fast&tasty when you know what to order and sit where ordered

by 0lenka at Citysearch

We always order and share #20. I don't remember the name but it is somewhat resembling beef stew meaty dish with red bell peppers and tomatoes - with rice, black beans, and plantains. Consistent good quality. Not too spicy, not fried, very soft, easy on my stomach. They bring it almost immediately. Good espresso.

Although, we noticed if we choose other seats than suggested, it takes much much longer to get your order.

THis all takes place during the day time, morning, lunch hours, so I don't know, maybe it is different at nights.

  • Pros: consistent quality of a certain item
  • Cons: if you change your sit you will wait longer

Mediocre Cuban

by alantgray at Citysearch

Been to both the Venice Blvd and La Cienaga locations to try the "Famous Chicken" dish. My GF got a small steak. We were both un-impressed. My chicken was dry. Her steak was below average. The high scores from other reviewers make me wonder what they ate that I didn't.

  • Pros: Cheap
  • Cons: Specialty was not very good
