Editorial Review for Irish Times – by Lilla Zuckerman
The Scene
Although it's practically underneath a freeway overpass, this small pub is charming and exuberant inside. The rustic wooden walls are illuminated by Christmas lights, and a long bar boasts several imports on tap. Among the requisite pool table and Golden Tee is an astoundingly clean and refined dining area, with linen-covered tables and red vinyl booths. The crowd is cheerful, clean-cut and a refreshingly diverse mix of men and women, young and old, yuppie and scruffy. The soundtrack is more Bowie and Brit-pop than Skynyrd and Freedom Rock.
The Draw
The obvious Irish theme extends to more than just the flag on the wall. European beers here are $4 a pint--an extra buck for Guinness--and the full service menu is authentic Euro pub grub. Skip the burgers and try bangers and mash, shepherd's pie or fish-and-chips to get the full experience.

Insider Tips
ParkingInstead of parking under the freeway, look for metered spots on well-lit National or Motor, south of National.
When to GoIrish bands rouse the crowds on Thursdays through Saturdays from 9:30pm to 12:30am--and there's almost never a cover charge.
The ExtrasMinors are allowed to sit in the dining room of the pub.

The Irish Times is by far the best all around pub in West LA. I've been living in the area for 4 years now and I've pretty much been everywhere. The 'Times' is a nice quiet spot tucked away from the madness of Los Angeles. Parking is a breeze, there's never any cover nor is it ever crowded, and the drinks are priced right. The food is well basically bar food but good and cheap. If you want to have a night out with friends or just a quiet night and a couple of drinks this is the place to be. The golf game they have isn't all abused and sticky like the Golden Tees at most bars. The best part is there's no Karaoke night at this place. The pub around the corner has full volume Karaoke every night and after 10 seconds of walking in there you want to stab yourself in the eye with a pool cue. The 'Times' is where it's at.
Pros: Cheap drinks, good food, great atmosphere, and good service
Cons: Sometimes the bar surface is a little bit sticky

We go almost every Tuesday for "Trivia Night". You sign up, play in groups and have the chance to win some cash! The DJ asks questions(similar to Trivial Pursuit) and then plays songs as clues to the answer. Other nights are pretty mellow, a fun hang-out for a couple drinks and you're actually able to see and hear the people you're with. I've even had a few celeb sightings here. Even on Friday, it stays on the calmer side, which is a refreshing change from the LA bar scene. Great if you're not looking to get scammed on, mostly older regulars hang here. Single girls take note though; the place is swarming with cute, fun intellectual-types on Tuesday. Very noticeable guy to girl ratio. One downside-a couple of girls on the staff are pretty rude, and they don't know they're drinks; you may have to explain how to make them. All in all though, the regular staff is great and the drinks and food are yummy.
Pros: Relaxed, good food/drinks, FUN!
Cons: A few snotty bar maids...
