In Short – Like a down-home coffee shop in Hong Kong, Hu's decor blends traditional Chinese watercolors with chintzy plastic tablecloths. A spectrum of spicy Szechuan tastes are offered, as most entrees come drenched in pyrotechnic sauces. Yu hsiang beef is served blended in garlic, ginger and pepper, while shrimp with Szechuan hot sauce combines wine, garlic and chili-kissed tomato. Subtler, less spicy dishes include Mrs. Hu's salt-and-pepper chicken wings, chilled vinegar cucumbers, and stir-fry string beans.
4 Star Sichuan for West LA

If you can't make it to Yun Chuan Garden in Monterey Park, then this will curb your Sichuan craving temporarily, as long as you don't order anything off of the combo menu. The Szechwan Cabbage & Pork Chop soup is the only item off the menu that i've had at an authentic Sichuan restaurant and the Szechwan Wonton ground pork dumpling in chef's special hot sauce is pretty good. The twice cooked pork here doesn't resemble the real dish in the slightest, where the pork is more like lean bacon, but it's good.
Best dumpling appetizer

This hole in the wall Chinese restaurant is the best in Palms! The service is great and the prices are reasonable. The portions are huge and the food is delicious though a bit on the greasy side, but that's almost to be expected.
Make sure you try the spicy dumpling appetizer. It's da bomb!
Parking is a nightmare. Try finding a spot on Motor or Woodbine or Mentone.
- Pros: tasty food and great value
- Cons: parking
Not better than Panda
by brndnp
I've been hunting for a decent chinese place and decided to try this after it appeared on Citysearch's best eats under $20. We ordered a soup, a shrimp dish, a vegetable and a kung pao, all items highly recommended in other reviews. Very disappointed overall. The soup lacked flavor. The meat was chewy. The sauces were unremarkable, too thick, and without nuance. Sadly, not cheaper or better than Panda Express...
