Best Diner in LA.
Look, this is my first review on ciysearch. I'm writing it for one reason. I've seen people talk about how the service at this place is terrible but...IT'S A DINER!!!! It isn't Denny's. It isn't cheesecake factory! This is a mom and pop shop where the people are friendly and remember you when you come back. This is a diner where the owner hangs out in the front with a friendly smile and a word of advice for anyone who needs it. You don't find that anymore, anywhere in LA. If you don't like good company and good food then don't come here. Please. The rest of us don't need to deal with you. If you want great food in a mellow atmosphere and yes it may take 20 minutes to get your food because it's made from scratch, so bring a paper or watch the game and enjoy one of the great highlights of the south carthay district. A diner with the heart and soul of it's staff and owner and a legacy of taking care of it's patrons.
P.S. the best hangover food this side of In-N-Out.
Happy all American place. There is no other place like this. Everyone is happy and there to serve you. The food is really good and you get a full meal for your money. I hope it never ends. The last great food place is Nick's.
Like a side of rude with your morning coffee? Come to Nick's!. Nick's Cafe on Pico is one of the oldest and steadfast diners in L.A.'s Pico/Robertson/LaCienega area. Coffee's excellent and endless, they have the best eggs I've ever tasted, no matter how they're made, and the servers are consistent and friendly. If you can get past the rude nonchalance of the host, a good breakfast be had. But you have to ask yourself, you really want a side of rude with your eggs and coffee? Breakfast should be a pleasant experience especially when you're about to put down your money and your time, it would be nice if the only bitter taste in your mouth was from the all the rich coffee. Nick's doesn't serve customer service with their tasty breakfasts - they used to, now they only pretend to - and their slip is showing. Too bad.
Terrible service. I'm sorry to be the only one to complain about this place but our latest experience there was not good. We went on Saturday, Nov. 3 around 12:30 for a late breakfast. We waited about 10 minutes for our table, which is to be expected on a weekend. However, once seated we waited an hour and still had not received food. In fact, after looking around the restuarant 80% of the tables were NOT eating and not much seemed to be coming off the grill. The couple next to us received their food and had to immediately get it to go. We finally just stood up and left. No staff person ever stopped by to offer an explaination and seemed to avoid eye contact with us. In fact, my husband tried to pay for the coffee we drank but couldn't get anyone to pay enough attention to take his money. We ate there once before and the food and service were ok, so I'm not sure what was going on. Even for a "diner" this is a little ridiculous.
Great diner with somthing for everyone.. Great HUGE diner menu with a wonderfully warm staff. Everyone knows each other, and the food is great! It's very busy on weekend for breaskfast, so come early or be prepared to wait. Best part is tha you can literally order anything on the menu and will not be disappointed.
Where everybody knows your name.
Nick's coffee shop is a little slice of home away from home. Even if you have to wait a few minutes, you'll be pleased you did. The entire staff is friendly and warm , From Alan who is always pleased to greet you in his vast array of hawiian shirts, to Oscar the manager who always happy to accomodate you.
The food is delicious, (the Machaca is my favorite for breakfast), the wait staff are like the relatives you'd like to have over. The menu is enormous and loaded with things to tickle your tastebuds with. Interesting photos adorn the walls next to the booths, or if you prefer, counter seating as well as limited outdoor seating for those nice outdoor breakfasts and lunches. As a former New Yorker (physically only), Having a place around like this does both my heart and stomach a whole lotta good, and makes me a little homesick too.
Do yourself a favor...GO EAT AT NICK'S!
Great authentic old school diner!. We eat here a lot... and this is truly a great diner. Quite possibly the largest menu in LA. They could do away with the menu and just tell people to order whatever they want, because the menu has every possible combination of food you can imagine. They also have some of the best breakfast potatos and grits in town. Get the Grits! Nick is also always there in a Hawaiin shirt, usually having a smoke at one of the outside tables. One caveat- if you go when it's really busy it can take a while to get your food. Don't go if you are in a huge hurry.
Nick's is Great at any time of the Day!. We love Nick's. I work 3 minutes away from it, and go there for lunch every Friday with Millie. Food=GREAT. Staff=GREAT. Location=GREAT. You should visit!
