best cookies, authentic accents, good look, exquisite breads, delicious everything, delicious challah
Perfection. Everything is delicious. My mother shopped at this bakery when I was a little girl, and I'm 57 now, and we're still going. The best cookies in the world! The danish is to die for, and the racetrack will leave you with very sweet dreams! The breads are exquisite! The rye breads, challah are so fresh and delicious. I've had similar Jewishs ryes in my life, but Diamond does it like no other bakery. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Bring your money, because if you haven't been there and you take one good look, you'll want to try everything!
While the rest of this Fairfax District strip goes hip, this old-fashioned bakery sticks to bagel, bread and dessert classics.. This is your grandmother's bakery. Clean, orderly and defined by function, the space consists of two glass display cases and wall-stacked baskets of bread. There are no tables and no chairs--only a small bench for the elderly customers to wait out busy mornings when the Now Serving ticket system is in full effect. Business is brisk, but the vibe is friendly and familiar--you get the feeling some of these loyal customers have been coming here for several decades. Best known for pumperknickel and rye breads, the old-school bakery also sells challah loaves, bagels, strudels, cakes, cookies and other sweet treats.
