Elegant Mode is one of those local businesses that's for people in the know. Shop owner Galina is a fantastic tailor who can work magic, and does so quickly. She's saved several friends of mine from dress nightmares and has a knack for making store bought clothes look fantastic. She's been my tailor for 15 years and I recommend her wholeheartedly.

Shop is small and hard to find -- it's next door to Molly Malone's on Fairfax, at 6th St.

• Pros: Quality work, excellent attention to detail
• Cons: A bit expensive, but worth it.
