Editorial Review for Nova Express – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
With a look that's a cross between "Star Wars" and "Star Trek," this cafe is like an adolescent boy's obsessive ode to the science-fiction genre. Classic comic book reprints, movie posters and superhero murals cover the walls; glass cases and shelves display a collector's worth of alien action figures. DJs supply ambient sounds at night, while the lava lamps and neon lights give the black-lit room a touch of psychedelic color. On most nights, black-and-white B-movies are projected onto the wall, which serves as a perfectly quirky backdrop for grubbing on the popular Cosmic pizza, Turkey Earthling sandwich or Solar Flare salad. There's also a cadre of coffee drinks, teas, smoothies, beer and wine.

Insider Tips
When to GoLate nights are when the place really starts to pick up--that's when club kids come crawling in for some doughy sustenance.
Save MoneyGet half-priced drinks, like the Nova Martian Martini, from 5pm to 8pm every day.
Look GoodAlthough it's called Nova Express, most people refer to this kooky place as the Alien Bar or Cosmic Pizza. (The small, almost indetectable sign outside doesn't help matters, either.)

Nova Express is one of a kind unusual place, full of imagination and offbeat joie de vivre. The artist Cary Long sculpted the place, creating the 3-dimensional art space. Other LA artists feature their stunning work as well. Their menu is really fun. Great place for a date and/or to meet up with friends for the evening. It draws an eclectic crowd...from hollywood people (Paris Hilton and her entourage, Benicio w/ Scarlett, LDC, Jessica Alba, etc etc) and just really nice, interesting and creative people of LA and out of town visitors. The solar flare salad with chicken is robust and healthily delicious. I hear the Nova Nachos are freshly made and delicious. The pesto is freshly made and strong and good. The Galaxy and Black dot drinks are yummy. I usually get the mocha or the cosmically named martinis. The staff is friendly and attentive. I love this place....What a fantastic place!
Pros: Great ambiance, friendly staff, fun sensibility
Cons: Street parking, though there is a $5 lot 1/2 a block up.
