good food, great breakfast, great place, enjoyable lulu, big portions, always great service, bad coffee
Food with hair. My girlfriend and I went there for breakfast yesterday. We *both* found hairs in our dishes.
What happened to this restaurant?. We stopped for dinner at Lulu's Cafe while visiting LA because I figured it must be decent since it has been around since I lived in the neighborhood in the late 1980s. But it was a memorably bad meal: overcooked, lacking flavor, all-in-all very poorly executed. And it didn't help that the place was not very clean. The only redeeming feature was the friendly service. When I got back home, I checked the reviews and was shocked to find that they are so glowing. Some of the menu items looked familiar, but this place must have changed ownership because it bore no resemblance to the cute, yummy-sounding restaurant in the reviews (or in my memories). So, diners beware!
Shhh... it's a secret.... I'm going to let you in on a little secret... Lulu's is owned by the same people as Toast on Third Street and has the exact same menu -- right down to the killer fruit cup. Those in the know don't bother waiting an hour for a table at the trendy Toast, they high-tail it to Lulu's on Beverly Blvd. instead and get their chow on in record time. Like its older sister, portions are big -- even the heartiest of diners have trouble making it through the chicken chow salad or the customizable omelletes and scrambles. Unlike its older sister, however, the diners are less concerned with looking put-together in their Juicy sweats and designer sunglasses. Lulu's is a neighborhood spot where locals feel comfortable showing up in threads that they did not purchase from Nordie's at the Grove. And that's a good thing. Especially the morning after a night out.
Owner was the Sous Chef at Melisse in Santa Monica!. The food is always consistently good and Lulu's is great at accomadating customer's likes and dislikes. Great for picky eaters! On top of serving awesome breakfast and lunch fare, they also have a dinner menu that will surprise you. Since the Owner used to be the sous chef at Melisse, the dinner menu has delicious entrees like NY Steak and Osso Bucco with wild mushroom risotto and its BYOB! Its definitely my favorite neighbourhood spot!
Best breakfast in town...... A great place for breakfast. I have eaten here many times over the last few years and the quality and service has always been top notch. Make sure to try one of the Red Velvet cupcakes when you are done with your meal!
LuLu's was worth the drive.
My family and I live in Phoenix. We were driving to meet friends and we were recommended to Lulu's cafe'
This was the best crepe and pasta Ive ever had. I wish they were in our town. I have been craving the pasta del a mer ever since I took my first bite. I have tried to re-create it at home but the chef has his own touch. I have yet to master this creation. I will keep trying and someday maybe get the right taste. It was definately worth the drive. I would do it all again. I loved the location so close to the freeway and easy to get to.
Thank you chef Lino you rocked my taste buds!
Someday I hope you will share your secrets in a cook book!
Editorial Review. Beverly Boulevard's unassuming cafe consistently draws long lines of hungry brunchers every weekend with its strong coffee, tasty breakfast staples and pet-friendly outdoor seating.
Love their breakfast!. We've been to Lulu's several times for breakfast on the weekends. Never a wait (we usually get there before 10AM). We love sitting outside to people watch. I love the different varieties of eggs benedict. Pancakes are good too. Anytime we have out-of-towners visiting, we take them to Lulu's for breakfast at least once. The cafe ole is delicious. Their coffee shake is great too! Family-friendly place. Service is always great, food is always delicious.
Great Food, Great Service, Great Ambience-Best Brunch Spot~!. I have been going to Lulu's since I moved to Los Angeles about 5+ years ago and have been a die hard lover ever since!! Amazing Omeletes! The best fruit bowl and pretty much every fabulous sandwich and breakfast dish you can imagine. This is the first place I bring friends or family to when they're visiting town. I rarely wait more then a few minutes for a table, even at it's busiest and unlikely other trendier breakfast spots in the neighborhood, you don't have to deal with any of the LA attitude from the staff. The servers are friendly, quick and never leave your coffee mug empty long. You must go here, you'll definitely be a lifer!
Best Omelette, Pet-friendly, Outdoor dining. It's a great place for brunch or casual lunch with friends. They have a wide menu and reasonable prices. We only waited for 10 min during our Sunday visit. Our food was tasty and service was quick. Just don't order your bagel with a side of cream cheese...unless you're willing to pay $2 for a 1 tb serving of cream cheese!
