Editorial Review for Futurama – by Kim Cooper
In Short
Futurama has been providing retro-look contemporary furnishings to area hipsters since the late 1980s. The amusing, signature line of massive, firmly stuffed sofas features the amoeba shapes popular in mid-century cartoon parodies of modernism. The small cubicles lining the long, narrow shop suggest a visit to a model home at a '50s county fair. Futurama will cover the classic Boomerang sofa with nearly any fabric you like. Hanging lamps, ceramic panthers and Chinese decorative items add period pizzazz.

We bought a bed a few months ago, right before moving to San Francisco, and it was the worst furniture purchase of our lives. Several parts were missing, requiring numerous trips to the hardware store, and to accomplish what the owner described as a "simple" assembly, we had to file down every single connecting part (assembly lasted several frustrating days). Phone calls and letters of complaint didn't generate so much as an apology. One expects such an experience with a $100 impulse purchase from IKEA, not a $1200 bed ordered weeks in advance.
Pros: looks nice online
Cons: poor quality, misleading claims
