good vibe, great place, unique furniture, good staff, big art, great communication, incredible vintage furniture
A Vary Positive Experience!. I found Nick to be a vary kind hearted person who has the best intentions with a great staff, I sold him a picture which I agreed to a post dated check do to the large amount he paid for it, a few days befor I could cash the check I was extremely short on funds so I went back to speek with Nick who wasn't there at the time but his stuff was extremely understanding & vary helpful, they gave him a call for me, needless to say Nick was willing to give it his all to work with me & since then Nick has giving me several checks which I've never once had a problem cashing, I can honestly say they are great people there willing to work with you.
I just sold Baz some furniture, and to be honest I was very wary after reading the bad reviews here. To my pleasant surprise, Baz was quite fair and cheerfully paid me in cash (after I told him I would not accept his check).
I imagine you need to stay on top of these guys with consignment, ie, show up with your paperwork and demand your money. But they did not prove themselves to be the thieves others have complained about, just slightly slippery.
As a seller, I would definitely do business with them again, but of course, keep them on a short leash.
great... Great... GREAT!!!.
I'm somewhat new to Los Angeles, but I have been buying from and trading with Nick Metropolis for a couple of years now and I can honestly say that I am baffled at these negative reviews. The Nick I have worked with has been nothing but honest, fair and surprisingly generous with me in all of our transactions.
I can only guess that these reviewers are actually competitors and writing false reviews... either that, or they slipped in from some alternative reality and are writing about Nick's evil twin from some backwards dimension in a parallel universe!
In any case, don't believe them. See for yourself. There's a fine variety of items that you will not find anywhere else. I've found many items that are now cornerstone pieces in my new condo.
Thank you Nick for the painting! I'm looking forward to many more years of business (and friendship) with you.
i discovered Nick Metropolis 10 or so years ago & have purchased (& consigned) there over & over.
they have a wonderful collection of pieces...from an odd 60's lucite foot stool to a ceramic pendant lamp to mid-century chairs & dressers. i have never visited the store & not found at least one item that caught my eye.
Nick, Baz & the crew are incredibly helpful & more than fair with their pricing!
there is a constant flux of the gems you find at Nick's...& i've learned...if you love it - buy it while you can!
i highly recommend Nick Metropolis to all my friends & to those of you who are reading this.
Nick is an incredible & generous man...you will be happy you met him.
thank you Nick for years & years of eclectic style & for sharing with me your humble & beautiful spirit.
So happy! Wonderful people!.
NICK! BAZ! wonderful people with super fun taste. I bought a stunning hoosier cabinet from the 1930's. I wanted to hold it that day but didn't have enough cash. he let me pay 1/2 that day and come bk at my leisure to pay the rest. I came bk the next day and he held it for me for a whole week before i had time to pick it up! they have all sorts of treasures. --Not only was the service great, but he has such a wonderful soul. Nick was having a lemonade stand to support the local elementary school, he also allows a homeless person to rest in the moving truck. Nick, you make me smile! I WILL BE BACK!
be warned - you will never be paid by this man.
I was referred to Nick by a friend when i moved from LA to NY and agreed to sell over $15,000 worth of furniture for just shy of $5,000. It was high end designer furniture in mint condition so it sold quickly but almost 2 years down the track, i've never seen a cent for any of it.
After constantly pursuing compensation, he has written me checks, then closed the account, bounced checks, given me every excuse under the sun and still im both penny and furniture-less.
He even has one of my couches in his own home which he re-upholstered that he has not paid me for!
i would never have put my furniture in the hands of this dishonest and unethical man if id read all of these bad reviews on him first.
I cant beleive he's done this to so many people and still has a business licence. It's simply criminal!
Good Experience, Great place. I've never done consignment here, but I had a great experience at Nick's. I was on my was to pick up a washer dryer for my new townhome and saw this shop on the corner and it stuck out at me like a sore thumb... I love unique furniture and I pulled a U turn in the middle of the street to take a look here. From the get go the staff was friendly. The gentleman loading and moving furniture around made sure I parked next to the store so I wouldnt get a ticket or towed as I was in a neighboring homes parking space. He was very funny and gave me a good vibe the moment I walked in. Ive been back several times and he's remembered me each time as well, and always says hello and talks with me. The things here ranged from brand new dinner sets to antique vending machines, tons of Mid century modern gems, a martini glass big enough for a person to sit in, incredible vintage furniture and art to An entire few rows of church pews and the podium to go with it. I was interested in getting a dinner table and chairs and inquired one gentleman about the price. He told me the new diner style table and chairs was about 400$ (The set was brand new, not vintage). It was a bit much for me so I continued to look. As I was walking around I was stopped by a friendly guy who asked if I needed help, who turned out to be Nick. He gave me a good vibe, as anybody with purple hair does for me (As you've got to be an easy going or unique person to have purple hair) We talked for a bit, and had a good conversation about music, and he asked me what I was interested in. I told him the diner table but it was too much for me... he asked me my budget and I told him around 150-200 was about what I was looking to spend. He did some math and ended up selling me the table and 2 chairs for about 250... about half the price of the over 400$ price tag that I was originally told. He also only had one chair in the black I was looking for, but told me he would be getting one in the next day and I could take the one and come pick up the other. I came back and got it, no problem and brought a friend with me to come shop as well. My friend was also wowed by the pieces they have and loved it too. We also found a lifesized statue there that was an almost mirror image of my friend, same red hair and height. Kind of eerie, yet a cool coincidence. Unfortunately the price of it was a bit high... but still a unique find. The only problem is that they have a lot of stock, but no price tags on anything... if you're interested, you have to ask somebody, and they have a small staff, so it's not always the most convenient when you just want to see a quick price. I don't want to ask somebody every time I saw something I liked there, as I would be asking way too many times, and don't want to irritate someone by asking prices on every item in the store. Overall good atmosphere, good (yet small) staff, Great items, outdoors carnival look, and nice outdoor swap meet feel, and Nick made sure I got a good deal on exactly what I was looking for. I've never consigned anything, but according to reviews I don't know if I would here. But if you're looking for the kind of furniture that pops out at you, or your friends are guaranteed not to have, this is the place to go... no IKEA here, and sure to please any mid century modern hound like myself. Check it out! Cheers, all.
Not honest. Yeah I have to agree with the other reviewers here. I bought a couch from Nick and when he delivered it, I asked him if he'd be interested in the couch in my current place that I needed to get rid of. I settled on a super low price cause I just needed it out of there and didn't want to deal with the hassle of it myself. Once loaded on the truck he then told me that he was not giving me that money but it would be on consignment and I would get it when it sold. Not at all what we discussed when the couch was upstairs in the house. Ridiculous. I chased him for the money for a few months and finally gave up and realized he had simply taken my couch.
Watch out big time. Do not let this guy sell ANYTHING for you. If he owes you money, my heart goes out to you, you are in for a LONG wait and million reasons why he can't pay you.
Resale. Like all businesses becareful what you agree to, and make sure you get what was agreed. That said ...
