What People Are Saying About Nick Metropolis Collectible

This open-air corner lot with the circus atmosphere is the first place to go when searching for that piece of furniture so odd no one else would dream of stocking it. Popular with Hollywood set dressers and eccentric collectors alike, Nick Metropolis rarely fails to surprise with its constantly changing stock of historic weirdness. From shamelessly trashy leopard-print sofas to utilitarian racks of classroom lockers; from atomic-patterned tiki bars to vintage bowling score tables, the accent is on kitsch. Artist-designed boomerang tables are covered with decoupage images of curvy babes or…
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- The south side of the lot is occupied by Nala, a separate shop specializing in unusual iron lawn and garden furniture, fountains, folk art, artist-made furniture and a range of imported treats from around the world.
- Parking:
- There's no parking on La Brea between 4pm and 7pm, and you're likely to be towed if you forget. Park around the corner on Sycamore, or at one of the meters on First instead.

A Vary Positive Experience!

I found Nick to be a vary kind hearted person who has the best intentions with a great staff, I sold him a picture which I agreed to a post dated check do to the large amount he paid for it, a few days befor I could cash the check I was extremely short on funds so I went back to speek with Nick who wasn't there at the time but his stuff was extremely understanding & vary helpful, they gave him a call for me, needless to say Nick was willing to give it his all to work with me & since then Nick has giving me several checks which I've never once had a problem cashing, I can honestly say they are great people there willing to work with you.
Pleasantly surprised

I just sold Baz some furniture, and to be honest I was very wary after reading the bad reviews here. To my pleasant surprise, Baz was quite fair and cheerfully paid me in cash (after I told him I would not accept his check).
I imagine you need to stay on top of these guys with consignment, ie, show up with your paperwork and demand your money. But they did not prove themselves to be the thieves others have complained about, just slightly slippery.
As a seller, I would definitely do business with them again, but of course, keep them on a short leash.
great... Great... GREAT!!!

I'm somewhat new to Los Angeles, but I have been buying from and trading with Nick Metropolis for a couple of years now and I can honestly say that I am baffled at these negative reviews. The Nick I have worked with has been nothing but honest, fair and surprisingly generous with me in all of our transactions.
I can only guess that these reviewers are actually competitors and writing false reviews... either that, or they slipped in from some alternative reality and are writing about Nick's evil twin from some backwards dimension in a parallel universe!
In any case, don't believe them. See for yourself. There's a fine variety of items that you will not find anywhere else. I've found many items that are now cornerstone pieces in my new condo.
Thank you Nick for the painting! I'm looking forward to many more years of business (and friendship) with you.

wonderfully eclectic

i discovered Nick Metropolis 10 or so years ago & have purchased (& consigned) there over & over.
they have a wonderful collection of pieces...from an odd 60's lucite foot stool to a ceramic pendant lamp to mid-century chairs & dressers. i have never visited the store & not found at least one item that caught my eye.
Nick, Baz & the crew are incredibly helpful & more than fair with their pricing!
there is a constant flux of the gems you find at Nick's...& i've learned...if you love it - buy it while you can!
i highly recommend Nick Metropolis to all my friends & to those of you who are reading this.
Nick is an incredible & generous man...you will be happy you met him.
thank you Nick for years & years of eclectic style & for sharing with me your humble & beautiful spirit.
xx

So happy! Wonderful people!

NICK! BAZ! wonderful people with super fun taste. I bought a stunning hoosier cabinet from the 1930's. I wanted to hold it that day but didn't have enough cash. he let me pay 1/2 that day and come bk at my leisure to pay the rest. I came bk the next day and he held it for me for a whole week before i had time to pick it up! they have all sorts of treasures. --Not only was the service great, but he has such a wonderful soul. Nick was having a lemonade stand to support the local elementary school, he also allows a homeless person to rest in the moving truck. Nick, you make me smile! I WILL BE BACK!
