Editorial Review for Illiterature – by Stephanie Scherer
The Scene
A wealth of therapeutic items fill this two-story shop: books, journals, bath/beauty products and other appealing trinkets. Austere bookshelves interspersed with colorful, creative displays occupy most of the entrance. The small but lively sections include cooking, history and children (complete with stuffed animals and rubber duckies). The back of the store and the loft above are stocked with fragrant commodities like candles and bubble bath.
The Goods
Books range from popular fiction and travel guides to more whimsical volumes like "What Would Buddha Do at Work?" Candles and bath salts are the perfect special ingredients for a relaxing read in the tub, and Illiterature carries a healthy variety. Jewelry and other accessories at the checkout area offer one final temptation before you leave.

They have really unique gifts you cannot find anywhere! I really liked the No Paparazzi Peas from the Lunch Box Bunch! www.lunchboxbunch dot com

This is my favorite place in Los Angeles to buy gifts - for everyone I know. They have books, kids stuff, candles, all kinds of kitch tchotchkes, etc. The staff is very helpful, friendly and informed and their prices are pretty reasonable. I highly recommend you check it out, even if you want a little present for yourself. Also note, their "sister store," Pulp is two doors down and sells all type of cards to go with your fabulous gift.
Pros: Ecclectic, Well-Priced, Fun
Cons: A lot to choose from
