In Short
The small restaurant brims with neighborhood regulars, from suits on lunch to fast food-weary students. Weekend nights, it's not unusual to find film-school types occupying the rugged wood tables. Varying in intensity from plain to hot, cauldrons of silky tofu are the order of choice: soy chunks in steamy broth are combined with add-ins like beef, clams, shrimp or veggies. Upon serving, a raw egg is broken over the bowl and cooks in the boiling stew.

I am not an authority on Korean food, but when a Korean friend of mine brought me to this place, I was floored by the soon tofu soup. The restaurant is a total hole in the wall in a strip mall, and the parking is terrible. Also, the little appetizers that they serve before the main course were a bit too exotic for my taste (they give you fee "starters" of kimchee and a number of other vegetable concoctions). But the tofu soup was great. They have other things on the menu, like Korean BBQ, but this restaurant is all about the soup. You have the choice of ordering different "flavors" of the tofu soup (seafood, beef, etc.). It's a spicy red soup chock full of tofu that they bring to you in a sizzling hotpot; they also give you a raw egg that you put into the hot soup to give more body to the soup. It's hot, spicy, flavorful and delicious. After I ate their soon tofu soup for the first time, I was craving it for a week and had to go back again for more!

The Beverly Soon Tofu is a tiny restaurant in Los Angeles. It serves Korean food, mainly soon tofu which is a kind of soup that has tofu, vegetables, and your choice of pork or seafood or a combo of both. You can also decide how spicy you want it to be. It comes boiling in a pot-like bowl. With the soon tofu, you get what is called ban chan, meaning side dishes in Korean. Though the restaurant is not big, it is a comfortable setting and the food is great.

I've been going to this place for Years! it's the Best Tofu house in town. Don't fall for the other places because they are not the originals. A great place to eat with a great ambiance! THe portions are great with all the barley tea I can drink and never ending side dishes!

What to Drink:
The restaurant serves an amber-colored barley-and-corn beverage that quells spicy flavors. Ask your server, or point.
Look Good:
Pots arrive sputtering red-hot broth. Hold your napkin over the bowl until the bubbling subsides, avoiding injury and dry-cleaning bills.
Know Before You Go:
Order it "hot" and your dish will be spiked with mouth-burning peppers. Also, the "brown rice" is not the expected staple, but a red bean-infused grain.
