Diamond in the Rough.
This is a perfect example of a "diamond in the rough", rough being the neighborhood. Situated in South Central L.A., this market & deli has been around since 1961. It's claim to fame are the carnitas, the fresh tortillas (made on sight, and from real corn) and the masa for tamales...people line up during the holidays for hours just for the masa!! The lines wind around an entire block to get in, and people line up from the previous day, bringing blankets, lawn chairs and Thermos full of hot coffee. It is an annual X-mas tradition. All food is authentic, and no preservatives are used, but since people eat all the food they buy that same day, who need preservatives?!?
