best margaritas, great mexican food, great service, friendly staff, great local place, overpriced terrible food, fresh spicy salsa
Very satisfied!.
We had scheduled a party in their banquet room. Maria was very helpful in helping us arrange everything. For a group of 60, it was perfect! The room is small and cozy, which kept it personal. We chose the chicken fajitas and carnitas michoacan for the menu. It was very delicious and plentiful! Margarita's were awesome too! We received alot of compliments on the food and restaurant choice. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. For a last minute party, it was also very reasonably priced. Don't really recommend that your group gets any larger than 60-70 though, because it'll just get too cramped. We attended a function there once with just over 100 ppl and it was very uncomfortable.
THANK YOU SO MUCH MIJARES FOR EVERYTHING!
Overpriced, below average, mexican food. I ate there and ordered the steak fajitas. I have eaten many fajitas at many other establishments and this one at Mijares by far is the smallest and most expensive one I have ever had. After I ate it I was still hungry and went to In-n-Out to eat. I will never go back to Mijares. I would rather go to El Torito or even Chipotle for that matter.
Great standby. The things I like about Mijares include their margaritas, their friendly staff, and the patios. I've dined here for dinner with my husband...had cocktails with a small group of friends, and enjoyed large family functions. I've also had good takeout...since it's right next door to a jewelry studio where I take classes. Their food is always consistently good...their drinks always consistently excellent. The staff here is more than friendly, and always accommodating. Take note that A LOT of people know this...and they ALL come here. It's difficult to find parking...unless you get their VERY early or are absolutely lucky to catch someone pulling out of a parking spot. Even with that drawback...I say give it a try. Visit Mijares and enjoy a margarita for me.
Terrible food, overpriced, not even close to authentic Mexican cuisine!. I took two friends from out of town to this place upon the recommendation of my husband. He hadn't eaten there in several years, but I figured it would be fine. I was so embarrassed. These two people had never been to Los Angeles before and were looking forward to some authentic Mexican cuisine, something that they can't really find in Portland, their home town. Because they are good friends, they were honest with me when I asked them if they liked the food, commenting that mine was definitely sub-standard. They agreed completely, saying that the food was too bland and you couldn't tell one item from another based upon the flavor. Additionally, the rice was dry and flavorless, as was the chicken, the tamales were so dry that I thought the corn husk was still attached, and the steak was tough and didn't quite taste like beef. The bill? $103.00 (not including tip) for three meals, three margaritas and two desserts with coffee. Way overpriced considering the quality of the food. I would happily pay that and more for really tasty food. This was not.
Rather eat Taco Bell.
Well we decided to try this place on a whim and it was not worth it. This restaurant is not athentic, its more of a El Torrito type restaurant. My Cheese and Chicken enchiladas were very tasteless, sauce was bland, chicken was dry as well, good thing the Guacamole had some taste. My friend ordered the Chile Colorado and he would not touch it again after a bite, I having a more open mind to taste tried it and found it Horrible. The sauce was watered down and the meat just tasted bad. Will not ever go back to this place.
I agree with the other user, go to Olvera st., Luz de Dia* is very good! handmade corn tortillas!
Locals drain margaritas in a festive cantina..
In Short
From the neon Corona sign to the bulk-quantity chips and salsa, Mijares looks like the set of some 1970s Univision movie and represents the quintessential SoCal taqueria. There's nothing fancy here, and that's the point. Happy hour is the main draw, and lasts from 4pm to 7pm, Monday through Thursday. Dishes full of complimentary chicken wings, nachos and little burritos keep packing in the crowds.
Oldest Mexican Restaurant.
Jesusita Mijares A young teenage bride, found herself widowed and alone. 1900's she immigrated to California looking for new life. With the help of her husband, Antonio Mijares. She would wake a 3am to make tortillas. Now tables were added, rooms build and patios poured to accomodate hundreds of guest daily. This place is anything but plain. It has old style Ambiance and the food are Jesusita's recipes from Guadalajara, Mx. Authentic, Family Oriented and can accomodate anyone.
Cinco de Mayo is only one of the many occasions for celebration at Mijares. The Best Food, Margaritas, Hospitality and graciousness is why Paul McCartney & wife Heather Miles, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Costner, Kathy Varga chanel 7 visits weekly.
Save your money and time. I grew up eating traditional mexican food --went to Mijares and was extremely dissappointed --first clue should have been how enourmous the place was--everything about it was bad, food, service, cost. Worst place I've ever eaten in Pasadena. And Pasadena has GREAT restaurants, I'm sticking to Olvero St.
Perfectly average Mexican food.
The margaritas are strong and the food unmemorable, which seems to be a pretty common combination in LA.
That's not to say that the food is bad. It's perfectly ordinary, unobjectionable Mexican food -- the kind you can get at dozens of other similar sombrero and maraca-festooned restaurants.
Keep your expectations low and you'll be pleasantly surprised by Mijares.
My favorite place for casual dining. My family has been coming to Mijares for over 35 years and never gets tired of it. Pasadenans know it is a great place to come with children are young, for large groups, for diner on the patio. Love the George's Special margarita - really smooth. I always have Nachos Especial or Taco Salad. Salsa is always fresh. Staff is friendly and service is good.
