Ombra Ristorante--omm my!.
Ombra Ristorante is a lovely little restaurant in Studio City. Although it’s located on busy Cahuenga Blvd, when you step inside you quickly forget the traffic surrounding you.
This restaurant scored major points for me because the MOMENT we sat down we were greeted with fried risotto in the shapes of triangles and a delicious sort of fish hummus with ample amounts of bread.
My fiancé and I took advantage of the well priced corkage fee ($8) and brought our own Pinot to the meal.
We started with a mozzarella which had arrived that morning from Italy, and our only critique was that we felt it could have used some tomatoes or basil to accompany it. As for entrees we did a pasta tri’s tasting, which is a choice of 3 pastas in slightly smaller portions.
The only other restaurant I’ve been to with a pasta tasting is Osteria Mozza-and although it’s to die for, so is the price. At Ombra Ristorante the cost is $19 dollars for 3 pastas and I actually went home with enough pasta for a second meal.
We sampled the squid ink Risotto, the spaghetti, and the fusilli with fennel pesto and rock shrimp-and it’s hard to pick a favorite of these 3. Honestly the richness at the time was a bit overwhelming for my palate, but it was a superb burst of flavors and fresh ingredients. I recommend starting with a salad instead of the mozzarella if you plan on taking on the tri-fecta!
I plan on dining at Ombra Ristorante again, and with a seasonal menu that changes every 3 months it offers a new gastronomic experience every time.
